Are there many decorations than the ones Aanchir reported in the LDD Reference topic?

EDIT:

I saw the file! He apply to the minifig torso the decorations for other bricks!

I hoped in new decorations for the torso instead!

Anyway, these posts will be moved to the LDD Reference topic soon. This is not the right topic for that! :classic:

EDIT-2: I moved it in a topic his own.

I am sorry, I posted it here, since I did not considered them to be good enough for the reference topic.

There are few more decorations available (there should be around 350+ in total). I will post them on 2x2 tiles, we can check then easily where they belong.

There are far more surfaces that can be decorated available then they are now accessible through LDD decoration tool. Even a battery box can be decorated. I hope that this means that in some near future releases TLG will release apropriate decorations for them.

Well, from hrontos's LDD File there are some useful (at least for me) torsos which can be used normally. :classic:

Thanks for sharing the file, hrontos!

Aanshirs color reference files have all decorations (even the hidden ones) mapped to the corresponding real bricks, i.e. bricks that have been produced. So I have to agree with Hrontos that maybe his file should not be moved to the reference section since it's more on the fun side :classic: .

Hahahahahahahaha oh lord...

Getting a kick out of the faces and the roads. the atlantis key discs make a pretty cool decal as well (the crab decoration would make a cool logo for a space/aquazone faction)

I checked the LDD decorations reference file and I found these new decorations (they are shown on the tiles, some of them applied to bodies and heads).

new_decorations.png

I hope somebody knows where they offically belong and will correct the LXF file.

I updated also the funny minifigure bodies from the original posts. :classic: In real life we wear relly strange t-shirts, so why should not the minifigures? May be somebody needs hooligans instead of traditional robbers for the police scene and t-shirts with bones, spiders and skulls will be usefull. Pizza boy also can wear pizza t-shirt.

Here is the LXF file containing all bricks that can be decorated. So if you know which decoration out of those all bellongs there, please, help.

And here are the all decorations available in LDD 4.1.8 on tiles:

It's really fun to see all the decorations like this :classic:

Anyway, the answer to your question is in Aanchirs reference file, which can be found here. I know he is working on updating the file with the new stuff in 4.1.8, but because BrickLink has not yet parted out the all the new elements, it still "in work".

How all the decorations map to real LEGO bricks can be found via LDD Manager. If you import Aanchirs file into LDD Manager you will see the corresponding BrickLink item, and you can then doubleclick to see it and in which sets it was used. Also note that Aanchir has gone through the trouble of mapping up also heads with faces on both sides. And note that if you LDD Manager you must put the correct decoration on both sides, otherwise it will not be converted to a BrickLink item, so the easiest is to copy the elements from Aanchirs file.

Also note that Aanchirs file only contains the decorations that can actually be mapped to the corresponding element. For example, decoration 92824 belongs to the kitten 6251, but this has (yet) not decoration surface in LDD, so it can't be "applied". :classic:

Ok since there's talk about decorations I'll ask here though it might've been answered but I can't find it.

Why doesn't LDD contain all the possible decorations there are produced by TLG or at least support any way of importation of custom drawn ones. I know in this case we'd immediately get all the official ones and some extras out!

Same goes for all the bricks that existed in the past and exist now. Why aren't they all included? I thought this could be a really cool ultimate tool in that case! I imagine that custom bricks would be a bit hard to achieve though ...

I try to give you some answer.

- Remember the aim of LDD: is is the lego tool to access "Design by Me" purchases. So... all the modes except DBM are extra for fans, expecially the extended mode, that is a sort of present for us AFOLs.

- Add bricks is not so easy: every brick has to be created and tested. Every conflict and boundary issue has to be solved. Every connection has to be implemented.

- Add decorations seems to be easier, but the LDD interface is not enough good to manage many decorations, so they have to modify LDD.

- Last but not least, every brick added and overall every decoration added means a greater database. This can be problematic for three reasons: the software would became huge, needing more space and more time to download it. A huge software requires greater bandwidth, and the bandwidth has a cost. Manage such a big database can slow the software and increase memory request, and then reduce the number of possible users. Besides, I think the actual software structure is not good for such a big database, so they probably have to reorganize it.

I found the method for putting brick decorations on minifig torsos, heads, legs and every decorable item.

I will post a tutorial, if anyone needs it.

Now, there is a couple of examples.

lddscreenshot23.png

I was bored so I put the clock' s decoration on a minifig, so... He' s the Lord of Time.

lddscreenshot25.png

Any SW fan will love that... an Astromech Droid T-shirt.

I checked the LDD decorations reference file and I found these new decorations (they are shown on the tiles, some of them applied to bodies and heads).

This is an AFOL forum (Adult Fans of LEGO). Please review capitalization and punctuation before you post. Also, when quoting, remove the images if possible - just to conserve real estate (I've done it for you know) :classic: .

Thanks

EDIT: I noticed you posted the same message in another topic (cross-posting), and in the processed bumped a 6 month old topic. I took the liberty of removing that one. Please follow the guidelines of this site!

Thanks Superkalle but your advice did not answer the question i asked, i know this site is for AFOL's otherwise i wouldnt be on it.

2nd if you have any advice on which files need editing on LDD to unlock hidden decorations let me know please.

As you can read, Superkalle is the moderator of this section. And his post was a moderation intervention, because you violate two rules of the forum. He did his job, in conclusion.

This is not a serious problem because you are a new member, but you should simply thanks him for his explanations and not be sarcastic because he didn't answer you question.

Someone other will answer your question, could be the user that started the topic. He surely knows how to do.

I can tell you that the hidden decorations are really few, and you can find that in the LDD Reference topic.

The decorations you can find here are simply decorations available for different items, "improperly" used with other bricks that support decorations someway.

NOTE that this trick works now, but it could be locked in future versions of LDD, because every decoration is thought to work with its specific brick.

This is not the time or place for that kind of comment :sceptic: Specially calling me bitching for doing my job as a moderator pointing out some errors to a new member.

It's not really a matter of "unlocking". Inside the LXFML (the file you get when you unzip an LXF) it has a list of bricks, and any that have decoration surfaces have a field called "Decoration ID". In that field, you enter the five-digit ID number for the decoration number. I'm not sure where you'd find a list of the numbers themselves, though.

Ah. So I found some more printings!? This is gold, and frankly quite funny! The minifigure head printings look quite odd on a minifig torso, but it's still kind of cool. You could make these hilarious dudes that have their faces on their chests. Haha.

I also especially like how you can now have (Not quite the classic Space Torso print, but close!) Space minifigs, due to the Space Logo printed on. This is just great! Thumbs up to you for unzipping and whatnot!:laugh:

They are already in LDD (it has those decorations built in), but many are not available through the UI.

What you have to do is edit an .lxf file manually:

  1. Create a new file with only the piece you want to decorate
  2. Apply any available decoration to it
  3. Save it, then rename the .lxf file to end .zip
  4. Open that .zip, select the .LXFML file and press ctrl-C to take a copy. Go up a level and paste the copy next to the .zip
  5. Load that .LXFML file into your favourite text editor (or notepad!)
  6. Find the bit that says decoration="12345" and replace whatever that number is with one from the list
  7. Save the file, select it and press Ctrl-C to copy it, go inside the .zip again and paste it in there
  8. Go back up a level and rename the .zip to be a .lxf again, load it into LDD
  9. Select and copy the part with the new decoration
  10. Load your model and paste in your customised part

Note that you can apply any decoration to any part that takes a decoration, but you cannot easily add decoration to parts that cannot normally be decorated. That would require a change to the assets.lif file.

Thanks for the explanation, I was curious how this was able to be done. I am not as computer savvy as some people are, but at the same time I can do a lot that some people can't. One thing however that I am curious about is where the source files for the bricks and decorations are located. I am looking at this from the point of loading in my own custom decals in whatever file format the others are, or even possibly exporting the 3d brick models into other 3d software, such as Maya. If anybody has any input on this I would be very interested.
