I built this for the "Taste the Rainbow" contest on Classic-Castle, and figured it worked well for a Kaliphlin scene too. The idea of the contest is to build a castle mainly out of a bright color. I was originally going to build a red/dark bley or bley 'brick' castle. But decided that there had been plenty of those done before. So instead I used blue/tan and tried to capture more of a middle eastern feel. It was a bigger challenge than I expected, particularly because I'm not familiar with the pieces I have to use in blue and tan. I'm not that happy with how the castle turned out, but I do really like the landscape. As always there's a full interior.

Credit for the cobble stone design goes to Wat_Tambor.

I'd like to receive UoP credit for: life in Kaliphlin [Anthropology], and desert [Geology]= 2 credits

As written on flickr, this looks quite nice and somehow it reminds me of the MOCs I built as a child, when most of my collection based on regular basics.

My favorite part of the castle is the "lounge" on top of the tower.

While I would have thought a blue castle would have looked odd, this works very well!

Nice, alternative build! :)

Onve again you demonstrate mastery of building compact yet detailed castles, well done!

UoP +1 for both claims (the nice brickbuilt cactuses is what saved the desert credit :classic:)

Good job (considering the limitations of those blue bricks). +1 UoP DoH for both claims

Great work SK! It has a very classic castle feeling to it! The cactuses are a great detail!

Weird use color (I usually use blue for water only) but definetely something really cool. And, despite the Kaliphlin setting, an undeniable SK classic!

An unusual color for a castle, that really stands out, I really like it is very unique, it shows off a lot of details on the sand color that are nice, and the attention on details surrounding it, make a solid impression on the overall of the moc.

Very cool, you did well with the limits of blue pieces. I keep feeling as if one more shade of blue may have helped vary things a bit, but really that is just nitpicking. Great job.

This is a brave choice for a build. Some of the details really stand out, the beautiful rockwork, the interior, and the scene at the top in particular. Blue and tan is a great combination and it very common across the Arab world, and it is actually my next project for Sultan's Gate, in a lighter shade. My friend is going to the most beautiful blue and tan city in Iran next week, I forgot the name but it is on the edge of the desert and it looks spectacular. I think your build would go better if you have blue where the tan is and vice versa, and it seems limited by the straightforward selection of blue parts used. Nice build, and a great Kaliphlin scene!

Well you kind of stereotyped life in Kali, . +1 anyway. Like you say I'm not sure the blue castle was an entire success, something about blue and tan that just doesn't quite 'go'. Brownie points for the interior though!

Awesome! Love the blue!

Thanks Infernum :classic:

The colors worked quite well! It would be a sight to see this castle from a distance. :classic:

Thank you :classic:

Great build Isaac! Brick on :classic:!

Thanks Simon!

This build is pretty cool, and the tan accents are a nice touch. That canopy is cool too!

Thanks!

Thanks kabel, it was weird using blue for a building

Thanks Skaforhire, I almost went for a checker pattern with normal blue, medium blue and the tan accents, but couldn't get it to work the way I wanted.

Thanks robuko, and tan probably would have worked better as the primary building color, but for the contest the castle has to be 90% bright colors :classic:

Thanks Kai, and I'm actually a little surprised how many people liked this castle, I like my other recent castles way better :classic:

A very nice looking castle Soccerkid, although some of the walls are a bit too uniform in some places and i'm really not sure about the line of technic beams. You could have added a plate's height line of red as an accent colour to break up the flat blue, or perhaps use blue invert slopes to create an overhang above the main gate? The recessed windows are quite nice and the landscaping works well to soften the stark use of primary colour. I'm not sure if you still need a UoP +1 for the desert landscaping (you are good for Life in Kali) so i'll give you that - there isn't much of it and i wish you'd included more, but what you have done is varied and well textured.

Thanks Gabe, for the contest the castle had to fit on a 32x32 baseplate, otherwise I would gladly have made a larger landscape. I liked that part of the build a lot better than the castle :classic:

The blue is still growing on me... but the flag shade is brilliant!

Thanks Mike :classic:

This looks very nice. Indeed blue and tan was a good choice. Looks exactly like a mauritanian building. Or a babylonian like the Ishtar Gate.

The awning built with the red flags is stunning!

Greetings Wellesley!
