[MOD] UCS Falcon Episode VII radar.

Recommended Posts

I've never been happy with the plain dish on my bricklinked UCS Millennium Falcon. I've tried a brick-built solution, and home-made stickers, and even water-slide transfers: but it still doesn't look quite right.

Then I saw some leaked photos which showed the new Episode VII Falcon radar. As you can see, it looks exactly as if it has a 2x2 Lego plate mounted on the front:

How could I resist?

Here is a link to the LXF file, which contains the radar: and a mirror in case Brickshelf goes down again...

Edit: Parts list, by request

Here it is on my Falcon (which isn't much like a stock UCS Falcon these days, but it ought to give you some idea):

Looks really good! I like that you actually built most of it opposed to using an existing mold. The Falcon is a bit rough though...

Nice representation, can we get some images from behind too?

Sure, no problem!

The 1x2 45-segree slope bricks are slightly "weak sauce" but I'm waiting on some better pictures of the supporting frame before I finalise the design.

Thank you. Do you happen to know of an existing mold? The closest I can think of is the Blockade Runner radar:

- but at 6 studs wide, it's far too small for the UCS Falcon. Not too mention insanely expensive. Again.

That Falcon, though, looks like a piece of junk!

Thank you for the feed line...

"She may not look like much", but "I've made a lot of special modifications myself!" .

Seriously, it's a work in progress. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Hit the nail on the head. What I really should have said is that it looks like an official mold, despite being made up of normal parts.

Looks great from the back too, well done. Every time I see a post about a ucs falcon or a mod it edges me closer to falling down the dark path of enormous parts investments

Love it, looks way cooler than a round dish, and from Han's perspective, obviously much more practical for those 'fly sideways through narrow gaps that no one else can fit through' manoeuvres that he is always pulling.

looks fab - just starting this journey myself so debating round vs. square radar. Your's looks fab... as does the ship in my opinion.

Very nice piece of junk with just the MOD it needs. Nice radar.

Maybe you could center the 1x8 tiles and place 1x1 tiles at the corners for symmetry reason.

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys.

Veynom - thank you for the suggestion. If you download the lxf file from the dropbox lin in the first post, you'll notice that the tiles are already as you suggested. It's been like that for months, honest. I just didn't have any 1x1 tiles to hand when I built the physical model :classic:

rollermonkey - I've added a bricklink xml parts list to the first post. Pro tip: do you know that you can use LDD Manager to easily generate a parts list fromany LXF file? I believe that online services like rebrickable.com do the same, if you're on a non-Windows computer.

Ah, I see. I'm typing this on a Mac mini: so I do sympathise.

It's an xml file for uploading to Bricklink. You could open it in TextEdit, but it isn't really human-readable.

If you want a plain listing, try navigating to http://www.brickulus.com/parts/upload/ and upload the LXF file there. This will generate a plain-text parts listing with part and colour names for you.

One word of warning: it's a bit beta. It works fine in Safari, but for some reason not Firefox. I don't know about other browsers.

Thank you, Dave. I downloaded your LXF.

Now I just need an UCS Falcon... ;)

I got the list using the website you linked and the .lxf, but it isn't recognizing the first LDD part.

Is this it?

I've got most of the parts in hand now, and although the dis itself is perfect, I think I'm going to see if I can't figure out a way to use the small Technic frames to mount your dish to the ship. It just seems like there might be a way to make it a bit sturdier despite the robot arms.

Go for it! There is absolutely no reference for the stand, and the 1x2 bricks worked, so I just used those.

If you can come up with something cooler, I'd love to see it.
