What's your source?

Before 2003, almost all minifigs were yellow, with a few exceptions (Jar Jar Binks, Darth Maul, UFO Aliens and robots, and a few others). LEGO decided to make its "humans" be yellow back in the 1960's or early 1970's, supposedly by voting between "white" and "yellow". Chances are, if they had had tan, flesh, or other colors available back then, they would NOT have used yellow.

In 2003, when LEGO got the NBA license, it was decided that yellow NBA players would not quite look right. As a result, LEGO also decided to adopt a new policy on *LICENSED* figures. All licensed minifigures, or minifigures that were otherwise intended to represent actual people, were to be done in actual flesh tones, rather than in the standard yellow. From 2003 onward (with a couple exceptions), this was true-- all licensed "human" minifigures were produced in flesh tones, and non-licensed "human" minifigures were still made in yellow.

To the best of my knowledge, LEGO has no plans to change this in the forseeable future. You will likely see a mix of yellow and fleshy figs for some time to come.

That is just somebody's speculations; it's not a source at all. Don't worry about it.

Thanks I just thought it was true

On the topic of liscenses, does Lego have the right to use the face and clothing decals on other pieces. For something as detailed as a stormtrooper helmet I could understand why the Star Wars people wouldn't want that outside of the Star Wars theme, but for things like Indiana Jones legs it isn't to obvious that its actually a licensed piece. Especially for things such as LDD I would like to see some more semi-liscensed pieces used. Is this allowed?

Agreed, plus I think this has been talked about before.

I guess it was only in the Pirates forum, but the topic is the same.

Will the switch to flesh stay?

I had heard that the introduction of flesh tones (for licensed themes) was due to Harry Potter. It could be either - although HP predates the Basketball theme, it previously had yellow figures.

For the "Obviously licensed parts" like the helmets and stuff, I doubt they would use it for something else, but I doubt there is any legal reason they couldn't. Not certain though. Han Solo's legs have been used in both Star Wars and Indiana Jones sets, but since they are both licensed by the same company, that doesn't really say much.

If I remember correctly, the reason for the switch to flesh for licensed stuff was because of Lando from the Star Wars sets.

Well, the NBA basketball figs came first, but Lando was the reason the change happened for other licenses. The first set with Lando, released in 2003, had his head in brown (25 Earth Orange) and the minifig heads of white actors in yellow (24 Bright Yellow). But 2004 Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Spider-Man sets, probably for the sake of political correctness, changed the heads of white actors to light flesh (283 Light Nougat).
