Technic action figures

Recommended Posts

Hope i'm posting this in the right topic

Don't know if this past the revue sometime allready.

I'd really like to see a return of the Lego Technic Figures.

With all the Ambassadors here and avid Lego fans i'd really like to know if this would be a possibillity or even if it is wanted.

I mean

What if:

Star Wars Technic Tie fighter with Technic Figure TIE Pilot.

X Wing With Technic Figure Rebel Pilot.

Technic Figure Storm, Snow, Sand- Troopers.

And i just use this as an example, the possibilities are as allways with LEGO, endless....

I would absolutely love it, and buy tons.

But what do you think?

What Does TLG think?

A Star-Wars themed figure pack like the Storm-, Snow-, and Sandtroopers would be impossible on its own, because it would infringe on Hasbro's license to make Star Wars action figures. Mattel already forced LEGO to stop making individual minifig packs (3340, 3341, 3342, and 3343) and to glue their magnet sets for this very reason.

As for the Technic figures themselves, I imagine LEGO stopped making them because buyers of Technic sets just weren't interested enough in them. When you think about it, Technic tends to be more about building than role-play. And action-figure/role-play fans are already catered to by constraction themes like BIONICLE and Hero Factory.

The same applies to the large-scale Star Wars Technic models like the Battle Droid, Destroyer Droid, Pit Droid, and Hailfire Droid sets. LEGO has never tried releasing large-scale Technic models of vehicles in the Star Wars franchise (unless you count the Dark Side Developer Kit, but since the point of larger models tends to be to include greater detail, the Ultimate Collector Series sets fill that niche far better than Technic sets ever could.

Overall, I can't lie: I'd LOVE to see the sorts of sets you describe, even if I was never really a fan of those Technic figures. However, looking at the history of the Star Wars theme and the Technic theme, it just doesn't seem feasible.
