MOC - ambulance

Recommended Posts

Hi all, since my police force has substantial numbers now, it's about time to focus on the other emergency services for a while. First cab off the rank is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter based ambulance. I think the 4431 set was based on a Sprinter as well, but given that it's the size of a truck, it doesn't really fit in with anything else.

The MOC ended up being 5 wide and 16 long to give it the correct looking proportions. This still allows for a driver up front, a passenger or another paramedic sitting in the back and a patient on the stretcher. The exterior of the MOC won't be changing as this is about as close as I can get it, but under the bonnet there's a bit of space left free for clips and odd connections that LDD just wouldn't allow. Trying to attach the windscreen was giving me issues as well so when I get to building I'll attach that with some clips.

There's a breakdown of the sliding door on my flickr stream, but since the MOC's only 5 wide, it can only work on one side. Naturally, I opted for the safe side (kerb side). The large double doors on the back allow for a small stretcher to slide in and the fender piece holds it in place. The middle section of the roof is also easily removed for a bit off added access.

As always, let me know what you think, and keep an eye out for updates.

If left is kerb side and the fact there's a checkerboard pattern, it must be British  I love the way you shaped the hood, looks really streamlined.

Thanks Zblj and LT. It is based off the NSW ambo livery, I tend to get most of my inspiration from NSW even though I haven't lived there for a few years.

Funnily enough LT, I'm toying around with a Subaru Forester as a rapid response vehicle right now. I think I have an unmarked white motorcycle at home too so that will be going to the ambo's when I get a good printer to do the markings. As for rescue trucks, that's mostly handled by Fire and Rescue so I'll be updating my old fire trucks when I get a chance, although I'm moving interstate early next year so the less physical models I have lying around the easier it'll be.

Well, I can't wait to see that Paramedic vehicle.......I might have to design as SA Ambulance Service one myself......

Really interesting details on the front. The little red and blue cheese slopes on top of the hood are pretty brilliant, actually the angling of the whole front is awesome. Very Sprinter-ly :) very good work there

Edit: the wheels on the stretcher are a nice touch too.

Thanks Emilstorm, while the front end looks the part, it'll get a slight reworking when I get back to building in December. The stretcher is the same one that goes in the back of the BK-117 heli I posted a while back, no sense making a new one.

Over the weekend I churned through most of the small parts that I ordered recently to build the Sprinter ambulance, and wow does it take a lot of 1x1's to make a checkered pattern! Not much has changed from the LDD design, although the bonnet is loosely held in place thanks to a maze of connections up front. Since I now have something physical to work with I can work on a sturdy connection between the two ends which have a tendency to split without a fig holding them in place, the 'sliding' door could also use a bit of a tune up too.

Love the ambulance and the scene you did to go alone with it. The bearded fellow seemed a bit too happy to be approaching the woman lying in the street though! hahah

Threw these two together this arvo to complement my lonely ambulance, with both vehicles used as Rapid Response Vehicles. The bike is almost identical to LEGO sets and my police bikes, while the wagon is based on a Subaru Forrester. Nothing notable for either of them but they do still fill there purpose of filler.

Hi there, I'm looking for a gift for my friend who is working as a paramedic in NSW. I stumbled upon your post. I am very impressed. I was just wondering if you can share how to build this ambulance? And also the motorbike.
