Dave Shaddix Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) This is the rebuilt version of my earlier kachina which I was never quite happy with. I removed the legs and extended the kilt all the way down to the base. This modification allows the figure additional height and stability. This updated version also corrects the proportional issues in the earlier version. --- Palavitkuna or Red Kilt Runner: The Runner Kachinas or Wawash Kachinum appear during the spring dances to run with the men of the villages. If the man escapes the Kachina by the end of the village street, he is awarded a prize (usually some form of bread). If the Kachina should win the race, the man is whipped by the kachina with yucca leaves. Palavitkuna is distinctive in the color of the kilt that he wears.
