KrAZ-255 6X6 Heavy Millitary Truck (RC)

Hello everyone,

After a long silent time I would like to present my latest MOC: a 6X6 soviet union millitary truck KrAZ-255.

As the 6x6 truck is already a pretty old topic, I am trying to add some innovations in this MOC:

  1. Asymmetric axle layout like the real thing,
  2. Linear actuator driven steering,
  3. Steering link parts are used to implement drive shaft.

The linear actuator driven steering is quite successful and it proves to be more reliable than gear rack driven steering.

The other conventional features include:

  1. Two-speed manual gear box,
  2. Pendular suspension for each axle,
  3. V4 fake engine,
  4. Functioning steering wheel,
  5. LED head and tail lights,
  6. Hood, doors can be opened.

The driving power is provided by two XL motor and steering power is provided by one M motor, one IR receiver is applied.

Size of the MOC is 52(L) X 24(W) X 26(H) and weight is around 2200g. In low gear ratio mode it can climb up the slope of around 20 degree, which you will see in the video.

W O W! That driveshaft setup is incredible, and probably the first time I've seen mechanical detailing to the level of offsetting the differentials.

Probably not the most perfectly functional model I have ever seen, but it is the most beautiful military truck MOC my eyes have ever seen! :cry_happy:

Nice job recreating the originals drive system.

Looks like it could use some softer springs though.

Man this is cool! I've never seen the offset axles in a lego model before.

I know that the power to the 3rd axle isn't from the second axle, I meant the fact that the driveshaft is offset. It's just rare to see this in a lego model, not in real life.

I think the springs need to be rotated 90 degrees. With their current placement, when the axle articulates, the spring will bend.

Thanks for your suggestion! The bending of the current implementation is unnoticeable. Actually I started with the implementation you mentioned but the problem is simply worse. Maybe a complete solution is to give the joint a second DOF.
