British and French Colonial Stickers

Recommended Posts

In the thread about my "two ships" several people brought up the accuracy of the French Stickers, so after a bit of research I have created several stickers for everyone to use. They are 500 dpi based on Anthony Sava's template.

British Captain/Admiral/High Ranking Officer: british_captain.jpg_thumb.jpg

British Lieutenant: uk.jpg_thumb.jpg

British Marine: marine.jpg_thumb.jpg

French Captain/Admiral/ High Ranking Officer: french_captain.jpg_thumb.jpg

French Lieutenant: french_lt.jpg_thumb.jpg

French Marine: french_marine.jpg_thumb.jpg

Pictures are thumbnails

Pictures of these on minifigs and aboard my new ships will be posted soon!

This is most excellent indeed!

It would be interesting to get some feedback from the French Eurobrick users upon these uniforms. To me they seem more appropriate from French soldiers than the blue coat Imperial Guards, but I'm not French nor do I have a solid grounding in French history.

I do not understand how somebody takes these pictures from the Internet and turns them into minifig bodies. One must obviously be in ownership of a printer but what I do not understand is what does one print to for ordinary paper would be difficult as it would not stick to the minifig without glue. But wouldnt this glue make the ink on the paper run or get blurry when applied?

Well, you need several things,

1. Image editing software to make them. (though, Microsoft Word can be used to print them out)

2. A reasonably good color printer

3. Sticker Paper, available at your local office supply store.

First, you pick what images you want to print out, then you put the sticker paper in, and then cut them out and paste them onto the figures.

There are some other methods, like just using a gluestick to attach them; or the high-end method of getting water-slide decals made.. which look a lot better, I just don't have the ability to make them.

If someone made a tutorial with useful pictures of the process involved in producing these designs and adhering them to a mini-figure torso it would be very helpful.

These are quite interesting custom mini-figures but I don't see any using the designs linked at the top of the thread.

The most piratish I can find is:

T'would be good to see the one's up the top in action. Are you going to make them yourself or do you know someone else who is?

You can use plain paper or sticker paper (available in most office supply stores...) put as many as you want on a page in MS Word and then print them out... actually, here's a fairly good tutorial: http://www.minifigcustomizationnetwork.com/howto/901

I don't do all the spraying on a clear coat or anything... but still gives you an idea of what you need to do...

Thanks. ill try that out when i have the time to spend :) only 3 days left befor i go on summer holyday :) 3 weeks with no job to wake up to :)

Oooooo summer holiday and nothing to distract you from Pirate LEGO! Sounds like fun! Only problem is without the job there tends to be less funding for the LEGO part unless you happen to already be wealthy.

Anyway, it would be good to see some of these stickers in action.

Yes I see much of these designs for print outs but I am yet to view any that are stuck to the bodies of the Lego men. It is time someone went to this next step and made these graphics for real. I would do so myself although I lack a printer of color and I do not think that black and white would look very nicely.

I can't find my good (8.0 MP 3x zoom) camera... so I took some pictures with my Cell Phone's camera, here they are:

Royal Marines, Commodore Matthew, and a Lieutenant: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/mattcorp.../0727061010.jpg

A captain, and more Marines: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/mattcorp...0727061010a.jpg

A French LT, French Admiral, and French soldier: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/mattcorp.../0727061011.jpg

sorry the pics are so bad!

Excellent work Mr Matthew! At last we can see the designs in action! It'll be ever better when you find your 8MP Camera but these are good for now.

Mr Matthew, what kind of paper did you end up using for these?

Avery "Ink Jet Sticker Project Paper"

Available at your neighborhood office supply store, I've used this stuff for years and it fits most of my needs perfectly.

Wow, I love these stickers. I'm gonna print them tonight and try them on some minifigs.

I was planning to make a british captain and lieutenant myself, but I will use these instead.

Thanks for sharing them!

Well, I have printed the french captain and it looks great on a minifig.

Only problem is that the blue color from the print doesn't match the blue from the lego-torso.

And since the torso is visible at the sides, this is noticable.

So now I'm redesigning it a bit so the paper will also cover the sides of the minifig.

Here you see the french captain as it is today, together with my union colonel.

The colonel has actualy a yellow torso.

I hope to finish the french captain by the end of the week.

Will post some picts if it is ready.

Do you own any of these viking torsos?

I wonder how accurately they match the dark blue ink.

Excellent! Both of them look quite good. I think I prefer the "union colonel", but that might change when you adjust the French Captain.
