Hi all,

I'll put all the SC stuff into this thread, otherwise things might get a bit confusing. As already said the Speed Champions are quite inspiring for City car builders - mainly because of the new parts coming with them.

17264134635_120efc054d_z.jpg

Here you can see a comparison between the already presented 7w+ Ferrari LeMans, the McLaren P1 from the set and a new MOC, a Ferrari 458 in 6w+, maybe more suitable for City builders having smaller vehicles in their layouts. More pics:

17076447808_e163916f8e_z.jpg

Main point here was to keep the car as low as possible - it's much lower than the cars from the sets. The Ferrari fits one whole minifig driver with helmet but is considerably lower than a standing fig.

Wheels are customized in order to use those nice new Speed Champions hubcaps (as already shown on the Ferrari 308 GTS):

Of course there will be a racing version with Speed Champions stickers, too. Thanks for looking, more to come.

That looks so much better with the lower profile, I'll be doing something similar with my Speed Champions sets when I get some other projects out of the way. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series redone by you ER0L.

Thank you! Looking forward to your Speed Champions conversions.

Some more pics:

Ferrari LeMans together with the Checker Taxi Cab. You may spot the low profile of the sports car - something that's always striking when you see a supercar cruising in the city between other vehicles.

Plus a new Town scale (6w) Speed Champion is finished:

I'm loving the redesign of the McLaren, it looks so much better when it's not as chunky down the sides. Keep 'em coming ER0L

I modded the LaFerrari a while back finally got round to taking some photos. It doesn't look any more like the source material, but I think it looks more like a ferrari. post-136984-0-04661800-1430133951_thumb.jpg According to my eldest (just turned 7) it wasn't a real race car because it didn't have a spoiler.

It didn't use too much in the way of extra parts. Just a couple of small wing pieces, a couple of cheese slopes and maybe a 1×4 plate or two. I also set the cockpit back a stud, which I think helps make the front look longer. This liberated a couple of 1x1 plates which meant that the rounds from the front could be repurposed as rear spoiler supports.post-136984-0-62745900-1430135040_thumb.jpg

Sorry about the size of the photos. First time posting

Thank you, I guess there will be one or two more ...

Well, he's right! Nice modifications, it does look better, especially with the spoiler.

Anyway, in my opinion the SC mudguards and wheels (which are great as such) are too large for passenger cars - that's why the Speed Champions are looking tall and narrow instead of low and wide, as sports cars should. That's why I opt for smaller wheels and mudguards. In any case all those parts, but especially that nice canopy, widen our possibilities.

Welcome to EB, btw.!

Thanks ER0L :classic: . Long time guest lurker, first time poster. I know what you mean about the height, but I think they've done pretty well with the minifigure constraints. I think part of the reason it 'looks' high is also because the body is so low.

I changed out the coloured 1x6 tiles on the underside for black ones on the 458 and its height now looks a bit less pronounced.

Well, it all depends on the surrounding. I guess the main thing is that all elements of a layout or a scene fit well together.

Another City Scale Speed Champion:

We cannot only turn Speed Champions into City scale vehicles - the opposite direction is possible, too. As you can see I've modded the 60053 race car by adding the SC canopy and adjusting the proportions. The platform is exactly the same as on the other City Scale Speed Champions.

The platform all cars are based on. All very simple:

Thanks LT. Well, fortunately I haven't scrapped my road plates yet ... Actually I'm not planning something larger with this, but maybe you can build small racing scenes with that nice stuff from the other SC sets.

I'm getting an overdose of horsepower here. Very good job at making these so recognizable! Time for a little street race...

I'd like to add another "City Champions" wheel with an even sportier look:

17371907715_81404ccacd_z.jpg

This is what it looks like on the GT2:

17188473618_18a893ef1e_z.jpg

And here the whole range of cars until now, built within a few days:

17145273407_491409e4a4_z.jpg

It was fun to build them and quite interesting to see what can be done with the new Speed Champions parts for City purposes. We can't use the SC cars as such in Town surroundings but the new parts allow us to build quite good-looking, very low (lower than a fig) sports cars - this wasn't possible before, at least not without a huge amount of advanced techniques. The "City Champions" builds you see here are quite simple and easy to reproduce with only a few "special techniques".

Thanks all for looking and commenting, there is a new Speed Champions Alternates group on Flickr (see https://www.flickr.c...speedchampions/) - I'm pretty sure we'll see lots of SC-influenced City vehicles in the coming weeks.

This is all good and inspirational---It's funny since the real cars have had so much aerodynamic research put into them, they all end up pretty much having the same profile more or less (which is to say, like the McLaren F1, master of aerodynamics IMO)

It kinda makes me want to pull a Dubai and make cop cars for all the supercar designs, haha!

Thank you! I agree, but the idea here was to imagine how Speed Champions in a minifig scale could look like which are easy to build and stable nonetheless. Today we have all those nice parts - the 1x2 curved slopes which per se were a revolution in minifig car building, much better Town tires, now those excellent windscreens and hubcaps. For the first time everybody is able to build good-looking small and low sports cars for their Lego cities.

It kinda makes me want to pull a Dubai and make cop cars for all the supercar designs, haha!

I can tell that you're not the first one saying so!

At least here's an improved version of the Gallardo cop car:

You did a really nice job on these. It's funny, last year about the same time I was doing something similar, but different.

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106436&hl=

Instead of making them lower, I went wider. I know it's not city scale, but I just can't abide cars so narrow that only a single minifig can fit centered in the middle. Both fun ways to mod these excellent sets though.

I look forward to any that you do with this next series.

Thanks! Your very nice versions haven't escaped me since I commented on them ... With those 4w canopies centered minifigs can't be avoided, however, 2 minifigs can be placed side by side even in 6w cars by using thin doors or tiles. Still waiting for a 5w windscreen which probably won't ever happen ...

I heart that Gallardo. Is it based on the same platform as your other mods?

Glad you like it. Yeah, it's the same platform.
