Midsummer in the Clandlands region, high in the Mitgardian Arctic - the last patches of snow and ice have just melted away and now nature in the tundra is trying hard really to make its's inhabitants forget that for almost 9 months it is actually not such an inviting place! Flowers pop out of the simingly nowhere, birds take to the skies and for a brief time the landscape is as green and lush as in the Avalonian heartland.

So the people of the Northern clans celebrate these days without night like no other holiday in the Mitgardian calender. A mead trader from somewhere South had shown up yesterday to provide a bunch of rangers with the neccesary fuel to celebrate the few days these normally solitary travelers now spend together. And boy, what a mead this was! - the singing and talking and joking around the campfire had lasted for hours until sometime in the mornig all had fallen asleep outside.

Blankets were not needed, for the air was mild and the sky free of clouds - if possible, a night in the open was always prefered over a night in the damp turf house. So everything was great and a new sunny day full of drink and food and joy lay ahead of them. The Mitgardian clanlands at Midsummer - a Northern paradise!

Ragnar had actually not been sleeping very long when he was suddenly woken by a strange sentiment. He got up, took a leak and walked down to the beach. His dog Henry was already there and stared bewildered at the sea that marked the border to the Frozen Beyond, a territory North of Mitgardia, no one had ever come back from in order to tell what was there. Only a few crude tales existed that were whispered by old women during the cold and dark winter nights in order to scare the children, tales so gruesome, they actually made children cry and seek refuge in their mothers' arms.

Normally the clanspeople therefore simply didn't think, nor talk about the Frozen Beyond and even the bravest fisherman never dared sailing these waters beyond the sight of the land.

But this morning, as Ragnar stared out at the sea, he inevitably had to think about these old tales he had long since forgotten. Yes, he was still drunk from the mead they all had enjoyed so much, and yes it usually din't take more that 14 or 15 goblets for him to see things that weren't actually there.

But as Ragnar stood there a cold and biting wind started blowing from the North clearing his blurred mind. He started to wonder: wasn't it supposed to be low tide this time a day? So why did the waves run up high on the beach then? And what abou this wind, just a few hours ago everything was nice and warm and the experienced rangers had seen no signs that the wheather was to change any time soon. Why so cold all of the sudden? And why did these clouds out there look so strange, why did they have shapes he had never seen before?

Then all of the sudden the weirdest thing happened: the fish started to jump out of the water as if fleeing from great danger. Ragnar shiverd uncontrollably and all at once he knew, he had to get out of here. Something really terrible was about to happen ...

The house reminds me of the hobbit. I like the fish, I take they are migrating upstream?

Great build! The building looks nice, as does the landscape, and The story is fantastic!

I like the fish, I take they are migrating upstream?

Haha I think it is a little more sinister than that

Thanks mates, glad you like it!

Ooooooo where's this going?

ya'll shall see!

The house reminds me of the hobbit. I like the fish, I take they are migrating upstream?

these houses were actually used by Viking settlers in Iceland, Greenland and even Newfoundland, check this out:

turf-houses-mountain.jpg

as for the fish, this is actually meant to be the sea, and the fish will evetually land on the beach!

Nice build, nice story.

You are preparing us for a BIG STORY?

(and not for "and then we ate fish for seven days"...)

no time to eat any of the fish, Ragnar and his pals better get away really fast!

Fantastic story and build! This mead series is getting me tipsy... *HIC!*

I have no clue why Lego and beer (mead, wine) actually go so well together ... anyway, proost!

It's Bard's legs and an orc torso from the fantasy era plus Mitgardian green arms of course!

Thanks guys!

I also like the wave technique and the jumping fish! Nice landscaping!

I am definitely looking forward to more of the story!

Credit for the wave technique actually has got to go to McCoyed. I just went a tittle further by adding a few white cheeses. But essentially it's his. The fish are a last minute addition though I came up with myself after several hours of thinking and tinkering.

Possibly my favorite landscape from you yet!

I really feel honored you'd say so. One question remains though, will I ever get featured oh you personal hp?

Nice story as well, looking forward to more

we'll see ...

Kabel, I'm afraid this winter weather is really starting to get to you... I'm starting to think you need a vacation in the Sahara!

Seriously though, this is another beautiful build! Love the continuation of the mead story and what I assume is a tie-in to those ominous going-ons you Mitgards seem to have planned!

Beautiful landscaping too, love the green and dark grey combo and how well it depicts a sunny Mitgardian day. The turf house and the off-angle way it is built into the mountainside is splendid too. Also love the drunk, passed out guys. Makes me think of some fun camping trips I've taken!

I'll have a beer to this build (no mead yet  )! Proost mein freund!

Yeah mate, been sick with a low intensity flu and gone working anyway, so by the time I get home I'm sometimes in a really weird condition ... so camping and drinking at fire with some friends is something of a faint dream I'm craving.

As for the mead, I'm still trying to figure out how to ship those bottles without breaking them ...
