As many of you History fans are aware, I have been actively promoting the Guilds of Historica, Eurobrick's exciting subforum.

Right now is a great time to join a guild as the main challenged have wrapped up and we are looking into opening a second chapter of the land. A large part of this little poll/survey is to find out why people haven’t already joined the fun to see if there are changes we could make in GoH to bring more people into the world. Feel free to both vote in the poll (with my somewhat facetious choices) and voice your opinion here.

For those of you who are not aware, the Guilds of Historica is a MOCing (and role-playing) paradise where EB members can tell stories and build MOCs for their chosen guild.

What are these guilds?

There is Mitgardia in the arctic north, filled with many great building role-models. Mitgardia has strong Norse influences and of course, builds many a MOC in the snow. The Mitgardians are often signified as strong, proud, and solitary folk represented well by the great bear, their guild colors are yellow and green. For those of you who like Game of Thrones, think of Winterfel and the Starks or maybe a great Dwarven realm from Lord of the Rings.

Then there is Kaliphlin in the diverse, but largely arid south. Those who like to build MOCs in the desert with Middle Eastern or ancient Egyptian influences will be right at home. Kaliphlins are nomads, storytellers and traders by nature, traveling between city states peddling their wares and a story or two. Kaliphlin is often represented by the Lion, their colors are dark blue and red. For those of you who like Game of Thrones, think about the free cities beyond the Narrow Sea, or other cities in Essos such as Qarth.

Don't forget about Nocturnus, in the eastern darklands. Nocturnus is a land full of wonder and has a vast array of wonderful creatures. Orks, cyclopes, minotaurs, and creatures and monsters of every sort can be found in the darklands. Sometimes misconstrued as “evil”, the Nocturnians seem fairly xenophobic and usually take great pride in keeping the other guilds out of their lands. Sometimes represented by a serpent, the Guild’s colors are red and gold. For Lord of the Rings fanboys, think Mordor with even more strange creatures!

And for those of you who like the more "classic" castle land, then the western paradise, Avalonia, is the guild for you. Separated into three distinct areas, the plains, great forest and mystic isles, Avalonia is a lush paradise filled with tudor castles and green fields. Some of the guilds, who are jealous of Avalonia's beauty and success, call the Avalonians "treehuggers", but the Avalonians are great warriors and architects. Avalonia’s colors are sand green and dark green, their sigil is the dragon. Lord of the Rings fans might see this land as very Rohan-esque, though you’ll also find some Rinvendell like Elvish settlements as well.

Though currently not open for membership, the land posses a fifth guild, developed during the course of the project, Varlyrio. With a sea fairing culture and Mediterranean influences, Varlyrio is still largely unknown to the other guilds and the island nation may become very important in the developing story. Varlyrio has no official sigil (yet), but its colors and gold and white.

Great idea for a topic Z! I can't vote because I participate though.

Actually there are a few hobbits in Historica, although they (skalldyr) haven't been seen in a while!

However, truth is, Mitgardia is the best Beariest (edited by ZC). Nocturnus smells of rotten eggs, Kaliphlin is counting coppers and talking trash and Avalonians are even more stuck up then everybody else because they are the most awesomest ever (edited by ZC). So you see, lots of fun

Edited by ZCerberus
Historica is Hobbit less. I checked.

ZC, there are hobbits in Avalonia

(ask Legonardo)

For those who like shiny things, big palaces, their own slaves (or butlers, whatever you call it), a lot of gold and a lot of freedom: Go Kaliphlin!

It is more than just the Middle East and Egypt! We have also an inflated sense of self worth (edited by ZC  ) some influences from India, China, Japan, Marocco, ... .

Edited by ZCerberus
Legonardo may be a Hobbit, but his character isn't

:look: Don't mind the guildies in this thread (who clearly don't get jokes about the insane number of LotR only people in here) trying to edit my poll, talk trash, or claim their guild is best when it really isn't, just vote and give some opinions about how the outsiders view the guilds.

Edit- also look at those sweet shield tags! Don't you guys want one?

You are just awesome, Z! You're like superman, you use your regulating powers for good! You're like Albert Einstein, you are smart picking the best guild as your home. And you are like Picasso, you make beautiful MOCs.

Edit- also look at those sweet shield tags! Don't you guys want one?

I already have one, but may I have two? Pretty please??

Edited by ZCerberus
All true, but nope. One's enough and sucking up won't get you another.

Yup, that guy who was into mushrooms and stuff (okay, maybe I should be more clear as I am talking about half Avalonia right now  )

Weren't there 2 hobbits (one by Legonardo) in the Mpya Stedor archery tournament as well? :classic:

Edited by ZCerberus
No Hobbits. License issue I think.

Uncle Z wants you :poke: to enlist! Historica needs all the able bodied builders it can get to explore the vast uncharted lands of this paradise.

So if you want to be the first to learn the latest bricking techniques and want your MOCs to make history, what are you waiting for? Come join the Guilds of Historica!

I looked into the Guilds of Historica a few months ago. To be quite honest, I was a little overwhelmed with it all. The guild threads were all over 50 pages at the time and on top of that it felt like things were coming to a close. Because of this I voted for the "I am too far behind to get invovled now!" poll option, though I also would have to say I am not a MOCer. I almost enlisted into the Nocturnus guild but then decided against it when I realized I wouldn't really add much to the guild :sceptic:

Okay Guildies- get out of here- let the History people speak! Take the smack back into the subforum... for now.

Well right now the discussion in Historica is to start a new chapter where no previous history is required to play and with multiple categories (with some smaller like Vignettes) to get more people involved! The first story might even be focused in Nocturnus! Sounds like if we launch that, you might be in luck.

This is all propaganda  ZCerberus want more people to overcome the other forums :laugh_hard: Joking obviously :innocent:

I'd like to be part of the Guilds but I have pieces only to make very small vignette  I think, people are a bit discouraged to take part for two reason: firstly beacuse they see only big MOC and maybe they haven't so many pieces (as me) and they felt a bit discouraged, secondly maybe because they find difficult to understand how to move in the Guilds with their character. These are only small thoughts from one not involved in the Guilds, I hope to had not bothered anyone.

Even so, I'm getting a little thought to joining in Avalonia, my character will be a Elven Archer. :classic:

Not all MOC's that are posted are big!!

Every now and then, we post really small vignettes as well. But most of us prefer to show their biggest MOC to the outside and I can believe this may frighten some people :look:

About developping a character and fitting directly in: Guilds of Historica has its own Wiki (http://guildsofhisto..._Historica_Wiki)

Most of the information about past events, histories about other characters and cities, general information, ... are collected in it.

This can help a new member to fit in quickly and to understand about what we are talking sometimes :classic:

It is not complete (not everyone is helping with it), but it is really helpfull :classic:

Even so, I'm getting a little thought to joining in Avalonia, my character will be a Elven Archer. :classic:

shame on you!

Reading this thread (in particular all the edits...) has been quite funny!

@Wedge, not everything that's built is that big. While it's true that there aren't many MOCs posted that are 10x10 or less, there have been quite a few under 16 square (mostly by me... I'm in the same pieceless boat... ), and even more under 32 square! And if anyone thinks their skills aren't good enough, you should see my first...

So I have been thinking of joining on and off since I started mocing... So many great moc builders that I feel like my small amount of legos would be out of place. I might join up after I do some more research.

Even with a very small amount of Lego, you can build beautifull vignettes and MOC's!

Nobody of us expects perfect MOC's coming from new members and every time we will point out where you can improve next. So step by step, you will develop :classic:

Oh and btw, ZC is only editing our posts in the History forum. In Guilds of Historica we do have freedom of speech...

You guys shouldn't be worried about piece count if you want to join. I had almost no pieces when I started. My first moc was a terribly plain and very ugly 64x64 forest scene. I learned how to stretch my collection out when bulding to get detail with as little as possible. Now my collection is so big I can have multiple large mocs built with extreme details but I still conserve my parts and better than when I started. It's true that you need to spend a ton of money to be noticed as a builder in the castle world but GoH is a great place to get some experience and feedback until your collection grows to epic proportions. GoH is just a facade for building castle mocs in four or five different geographical styles. You shouldn't be intimidated to join. A lot of us use LotR figure parts too. It's ok to take those LotR sets apart and build something else.

Problem Why I do not participate is the fact I only have about 3.000 pieces currently available for MOCs (still building my terrain needs)

I will only be able to participate after New year, when I finally reach 5.000+ pieces and enough to make decent forests/terrain MOCs.
