A few days ago, Guy's Uncle's ex-chef made the terrible mistake of serving asparagus as a side dish for lunch.

Uncle can't stand asparagus.

His wife Elaine, however, has never cooked in her life; so a new chef was most definitely in order. Uncle has spent the last several days roaming New Eslandola in search of an asparagus hating chef, and has finally landed at Weelond's La Corona restaurant, where Chef Jalape is always pleased to show of his skills.

After a delicious dinner of grilled fish, Uncle was ecstatic. This was the chef for him. Elaine, however, had been watching the chef out of the corner of her eye and had been quite alarmed by his reckless procedures with his humongous knife. She insisted upon asking a few questions before trying to strike a deal.

Guy's Uncle began the conversation. "Delicious fish. Are you looking for a job?" Uncle never was good about beating around the bush.

"Thankee! In course, I has a job, you sees - "

"But, of course, you wouldn't mind a better one?"

"Weel, no-o, I don't says..."

"Wait a second!" Elaine interposed. "We're going a little fast here. Say! ...isn't that knife just a touch dangerous?"

"Dangrus m'am? Oh, no-o! Not at all. In course, Jacques did cut off hes hand wid it, yesterday, and when I..."

"But, you were saying," Guy's Uncle interposed, "that you wouldn't mind a better job?"

"No-o, I think..."

"But surely, if the knife isn't dangerous, your grill gets a bit out of control sometimes?" This was from Elaine.

"Out of control?!? Oh no, m'am, I's very careful. You've no notion how many times I's stopped the flames right afore they reached the roof - why, just yesterday I was grilling..."

"But!" Guy's Uncle interrupted, "But, of course, it would be even better if you had a better job. Maybe as a private chef?"

"A private chef? Ye-es... I has sometimes thought on that..."

"But," Elaine interjected, pointing, "is it really necessary to have that pail of water always on hand behind you?"

"Oh yes, m'am! Why, I's just saying - yesterday I's busy with the grill, an' all on the sudden..."

"Say!" Guy's Uncle cut in. "Perhaps you'd like to be a private chef for me?"

Jalape looked at him in surprise. Then he flourished his knife in the air and sliced through the atmosphere with downright glee. "Why, sir, I'd be honored!"

"It's settled then!" Uncle responded, before Elaine could add another word.

This is actually one of my favorites of all my MOCs to date - really liked how the road technique worked here and the windows also turned out quite as well as I had envisioned them. Pretty fun to build too, though it took me a while to hit on the right color combinations and that sort of thing!

C&C welcome! Thanks for looking!

Great restaurant Kai !

The street is excellent. That road technique is still impressive ! And I like the street lamps you made !

That chief seems not liking apples in addition on asparagus... I don't see any in the restaurant... Perhaps some good MAESTRO merchant could help here... ;p :)

Great build! Detailed inside and out -- very nice! I like how you did the windows. And we finally hear from Guy's aunt. pir_laugh2.gif

Very nice build, Kai, that road technique is superb, and the restaurant is excellent, especially the windows and the black tiled section at the bottom! pirate_wink.gif Great job with the interior and minifig activity as well!

It's easy to see that the chef's grill has blackened the rafters considerably pirate_laugh2.gif Lovely building, one of my favorites from you. The windows, roof, and interior all look great as a whole, and individually pirate_classic.gif

All that dark red looks great, especially when highlighted with the black details (I really need to get some more dark red!!). Your hard work with the colour combinations has paid off, everything just works really well. That road looks amazing... and yet so frustrating at the same time - I hope you have small fingers, I'm pretty sure I'd need tweezers...

Beautiful restaurant, Kai. I agree that the road and the colour scheme works brilliantly.

The brown roof and the black detailing works surprisingly well with the dark red, and the lbg road gives a nice contrast.

Those fence pieces works really well as windows two.

And that uncle certainly knows what he wants, of not the best way to negotiate for it... :P

Colour choices are just right and almost certainly would be stolen if I had enough dark red! The orad look slovely, the pavement is maybe a tiny bit modern but not necessarily, this is the Eslandolan capital in the new world after all - I hear that Mayor Fontonajo is all about civic development pirate_wink.gif

The roof is a bit of a highlight for me, just looks perfect with the other colours and the style is very very nice.

Very nice build. I don't think I've seen wheels used for a road before, and it looks very nice. The streetlamp is a great addition as is the carriage. The restaurant is a very clean build. The windows are well done, and it certainly has the atmosphere of a clean little establishment. I'd suggest adding a chimney so all the smoke from the grill doesn't overwhelm the patrons, but other than that it's an excellent build.

Hopefully the next chef is equally as effective at preventing flames from reaching the ceilingpir_laugh2.gif.

Great story to go along with a great build. The road and sidewalk technique is great. I really like that roof! These are the times I realize I really don't know very much about building with Legos. Keep up the great work and thanks for inspiring us who have less experience.

Great and funny story - and the restaurant is "awesome". So many innovative details here!

I like the lanterns in front of the building, the pavement, the tables, the windows....

Good point! But maybe that's an apple pie lurking in the background? pirate_look.gifpirate_laugh2.gif

Thank you! Yeah, I hope to use his Aunt a bit more... still need to flesh out her character more in my mind, she must obviously have lots of patience but other than that I'm not quite sure yet... pir_laugh2.gif

The moment I got that sword I knew my chef would have to use it! pir_laugh2.gif I'm still debating on whether to use him more or what exactly though...

Thank you!

Dark red is awesome! One of the most useful PAB expenditures I've ever made. pirate_laugh_new.gif Oh yeah, that road is a pain, despite the fact that I do have small fingers. It was nothing compared to my last one though... I mean, that one probably took 6 hours or so, this one only took one, I think! pirate_laugh2.gif

Thanks!

Thanks Phadeout! Though this is actually in Weelond, but civic development is being pushed there too I hear. pirate_laugh2.gif That kind of roof is so versatile, and yeah, maybe the road could use a few potholes but I'm always rather afraid that the potholes will become disproportionately large as messing those little rounds up has a bit of a domino effect!

Thank you! Those actually aren't wheels... they're 1x1 light grey round tiles (which is even more of a pain!). Good idea there about the chimney. I had been planning one at some point, but just totally forgot! pirate_look.gif

Thanks SilentWolf! pirate_blush.gif I didn't get here overnight, so keep plugging away!

This is a lovely restaurant. The black and dark red colors are beautiful and the interior details are great. I especially like the windows and tables. That road technique looks good once again. And of course any story involving Uncle is going to be a good read. Keep it up.:classic:

Thanks Captain Dee!

I actually experienced a deal of trouble hitting on the right combinations for color here - almost went with lavender and black, but that really just didn't seem right!
