When I was a child i used to build vehicles (especially trucks) but one day visiting my local toy shop I was impressed with small pirate set. What really made me fascinated about it was the skeleton minifigure...

Box

The box is very small and I dont have any modern set with similar box size. But I must say that I dont like that color scheme. It seems to be too sad and I would prefer to see box style which appeared with earlier pirates sets (that yellow lines around main pictures).

Back and side of the box show us more models we can build with this set- this may be surprising that so small set includes enough pieces to make alternate builds.

Building instruction

Some experienced builders may say that when set is small building instruction isn't needed. Well I must say that building alternate models I couldn't see every part of the model because for example they were covered with skeleton. So small pictures on the second page may be difficult to use...

Parts

To be honest there isn't any rare piece but You may like gold pieces, large green leafs, grey large panels and skeleton of course :pir_laugh2:

The set

It's another small pirates set that You cant dislike. Even if there is a small parts number You can make a serious battle between ugly pirate and old soldier skeleton. Fight but what for??? Gold is what we all need not matter You are a soldier or a pirate. So choose and grab Your weapon!!!

Minifigures

So who would You choose a pirate or a soldier skeleton?

16713325035_57c1cf34bd_z_d.jpg

It was my first skeleton minifigure but after I bought this set the pirate seemed to be very interesting because of uncommon face (I owned mostly CITY sets in my collection with smilling faces).

Spare pieces

Previous photos include spare parts but here You can see what left after build. That large leaf spare piece surprised me :pir-blush:

Alternate models

There are 3 alternate models. One is on the side and two on the back of the box.

What do You think about this set?

This is my childhood set so its hard to say something bad about it. There were problems building alternate models (couldnt see what is behind the wall and skeleton). Also more weapons could be included but thats a wish. Maybe box color could be more happy but thats just my opinion. Overall the set is wonderfull with a lot of play possibilities. It looks great also for collectors although any rare piece is not included.

I love this little set because it was the only Pirate set I had as a wee li'l bairn. My brother and I bought Redbeard Runner when it was rereleased as well.

The skeleton's helmet was one of those extra special pieces when I was a kid. :) I "display" this together with Redbeard Runner.

Thanks for the thorough review. A lot of effort put into such a small set, kudos for that!

And I must say, I'm impressed how good a condition your childhood set is in... mine are all yellowed with scratched and tooth marks on them...

Thanks for your nice review. At first I didn´t like this set. I bought it after my awaken from dark ages for 1 € from a liquidation selling of a Lego parts/old sets store in my hometown.

But I had to see its a quite good set, with everything you need for playing. And it looks well, too.

I wrote this review because on this forum it hasn't been reviewed yet. So I thought if I have it somewhere on shelf then I should show it.

Thank You pirate_laugh2.gif

I really prefer these "old" LEGO sceletons. The new ones have strange arms. I see the point that the "old" arms can't stay in position but... it's a sceleton. They don't need to hold their arms up! :)

small and simple, but nice set. I remember that 1996-1997 sets with new pirate minifigs, spaniards and skeletons (pirate sets released before 1996 didn't include skeletons except to Rocky Reef). That could be the beggining of a great pirate era. Redbeard Runner and Armada Flagship were poorer than its predecesors, but there were nice sets like Skeleton Crew, Volcano island, Shipwreck island, etc. In 1996-1997 I thought in 1998-1999, The LEGO Company would release new spaniard sets, including a big spaniard base, and better ships. I was wrong, and Pirate theme were discontinued in 1998.
