YESSSSS! That mosquito one is just perfection incarnate. Those compound eyes, those segmented trans lime wings, that head shaping, that scale look, yes yes YES!

And that red one is very awesome too. Since it doesn't look anything like a mantis, I'm guessing it's the scorpion (of which, until it was mentioned a few posts ago, I had never heard. Is there a scorpion vehicle too?). Again, it has that loose scale-pattern. Moreover, it's head has such a unique look that I can't do anything but like it.

There sure are a lot of new head molds this year. TLG is definitely trying to up their game with 2013 themes.

With that said, I guess I'm not into Space enough to want any of these. I will wait to see the actual sets. The figures do look nice with some nice head shapes and printing, but I don't know if I would be able to use them for much in my collection.

Note: I used gray for the dragonfly because he's visibly gray. (http://farm9.staticf...162843d3f_q.jpg) I don't have any particular reason for my choice of orange to colour the scorpion. Nor do I have a reason for colouring the beetle blue.

The red alien minifigure is an exclusive and, while not a mantis, I can't imagine there would be two red aliens (although, I could see the same head-mold but re-coloured) The scorpion's colour has not yet been revealed. I predict it'll be brown or orange (or blue if the beetle's not blue, as I think it'll be.) Also, as evidence that alien species does not always correlate with vehicle species, the mosquito appears in two sets. I don't think both will be styled after mosquitoes. (of course, one is, and the beetle is stated as driving a beetle.)

Well, the red minifigure has four eyes and no antennae. So it's the Scorpion and the segmented body and rear of the head give that away. Certain Scorpions have a raised crest at the back of the head very much like this figure. the Mantis and Dragonfly should have bulbous protruding eyes like the Mosquito while the Beetle should have one pair of small eyes. All the aliens apart from the Scorpion should have antennae. I suspect the Beetle and the Scorpion will be the only ones without some form of wings.

The red alien exclusive to the Mantis set may just be regular red. In my google search I only found brown and green Mantis' but given how bright this theme is colour wise a red Mantis wouldn't be that far off a brown one. The German write up may also be wrong. Perhaps the Mantis set alien is dark orange not red. Preliminary images in a catalogue are often poor quality and dark orange often looks red in them.

I'm not sure about the dragonfly figure being grey. It looks dark blue or black to me.

Well, what you say makes total sense. I too (still) think that the minifigure is scorpion in design, so I think it may be a recolouration of whatever scorpion appears in the scorpion set. That, or the dark orange thing you mentioned. Or, it could be that the "Space Scorpion" is only the name of the alien's ship in Vermin Vaporizer, and the "alien insect" is of another species, possibly the beetle again.

I'm not sure I agree with you about the beetle not having wings. The presence of wings is one of the defining features of all insects, including the Coleoptera Order (which means sheathed wing)... Unless those aliens not mentioned as having wings in the German write-up all don't have wings.

I don't think the German-Write ups went by the colour of the figs that people saw in the catalogue,  but rather, by what the designers/ PR folk wrote as a description of the set. It'll either be red or a mistranslation. My German is shoddy, and I didn't see the originals, so I wouldn't know. Mantises do come in all shapes and colours, from white and pink to deep red to brown, green, and almost every hue in-between.

The "dragonfly" is definitely dark bley; the purple/dark blue you see is probably the cocoon from the dragonfly ship. (unless you're referring to the dark design on his chest, which could be black or dark-blue.) Furthermore, he has wings of the same colour as those on the mosquito.

My feelings exactly.  All I see there is a blur of colors, like abstract painting with psychedelics.  Unless I'm seeing a different pic from everybody else, I don't get how anyone could interpret it to show individual minifigs, much less the color of their wings.

Only reason for thinking the beetle might not have wings is that they fold them into their casings when not in flight. Unlike dragonflies and mosquitoes.
Also there is quite clearly a minifigure in that picture with a green head and compound eyes of black. below the purple cocoon.

I love these new minifigs. However, Lego usually nails it when making alien figs, so that does not comes as much as a surprise to me, but it's still very pleasant news.

Thanks for the interpretation, Dannylonglegs.  That actually helps a lot.  I still can't see it, but at least I understand what everyone else is seeing in that picture.  Mind you, if you told me that was a picture of a heffalump climbing a tree, It'd be just as valid to me.

I don't know how hard you're squinting to see anything in that blurry mess, but I am completely lost.

It's easier to spot looking at the original image. The purple cocoon has something extending from it, pointing forwards and slightly to the right of the figure. Possibly a dragonfly alien tail. Below that is a large greenish head that has big black compound eyes. below the eyes is a dark triangle shape where the mouth is. his arm is black and his torso has a grey look. on his left shoulder you can see the trans green wing against the lime green/trans neon yellow wing parts of the vehicle. His legs are hidden by the back end of the lime green/trans neon yellow angled wedge that forms the vehicle nose.

In the pics Dannylonglegs posted, where he says 'this is the torso' he's actually highlighted the head.
