Minifig "shoes"

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I have a few minifigs I made that I would like to give shoes. I'm thinking like the Pretzel Girl CMF.

I've done some searching, but I can't find anything noteworthy on how to do this. I was considering using vinyl stripe tape to get the effect. Any ideas? All of what I'm doing involves a darker color on a lighter color leg, so no crazy stuff is needed to make the color visible.

The tape idea has the advantage that there is no risk of mispainting and messing up the legs. So if you find a good tape go for it. Another option would be to just paint paper. If you apply the paint thickly enough, it becomes like a thin plastic which can be glued to the fig.

Making a template could also be an option, but more work.

If you are just going for that straight look all the way around, just put some masking tape on the leg, one piece that just wraps around, aligned with the top of the foot. Then paint all the way around. If you are painting a whole surface like that it is pretty easy to make it look alright, and it's so tiny you wouldn't notice it unless you mess up really bad. Just don't put on too much paint, and wait till its dry before you take the tape off. When I used to paint these types of things I would put the piece on a 1x1 cone to make sure the whole bottom was not touching anything, it can mess up the paint job and excess paint will run down and form a 'thingy' if you place it on a flat surface.

As a quick-and-dirty sot of solution i used strips of black tape to relative success.

I took some toothed plates, and filed them down via a drill, until they were rounded enough, and then decorated them.

Just snap them to the bottom of the feet. They look better than you'd think.

I designed a Wizard of Oz Dorothy this way, and since she has brick built legs, I think these "shoes" look even better.

EDIT: When I say "toothed plates", I mean these things.
