Heroica RPG - Quest #126 Paint By Heroes

Recommended Posts

The Heroes all arrive at the Docks at relatively the same time. There, they see a brown wooden ship, trimmed with black. Various sailors and workers are bustling around on the ship loading and unloading cargo. A seagull lands on the railing only to be quickly shooed away by what looks like the captain of the ship. The seagull squawks and flaps its wings away.

Then, a glint of light catches the Heroes' eyes. They look to the left on towards the poopdeck. They see the glint is coming from a small, blue gem held by a man in a darker blue shirt and bright green pantaloons. His eyes hold a look of aloofness under the mop of blonde hair on his head.

"There they are! Some of Heroica's finest warriors!" The man casts an eye towards Miderun and Annienal. "And some of the prettiest ones if I might add." The blonde man pockets the gem and walks down towards the gangplank and waves the Heroes on and they follow.

"My name is Fabio Sumero. My brother Javier posted the notice about the acquisition of some of the rare dyes from the island of Tridentia." Fabio bows low to the Heroes in greeting. He then looks to the two women and says to the entire group, but directed towards the girls, "Perhaps you've seen some of the Sumero Family's work." Fabio then casually pushes a stray lock of hair back. "Do any of you have any questions?"

Ooc: Stats are good.

Warlen extended a hand. "Warlen Melimane, half-elf. Nice meeting you, if you know what I mean. I haven't heard of you either, I'm sorry to say, but considering the impressiveness of this ship I assume you're fairly well off?"

After the captain replies, Warlen turned to the others. "Hey guys. You all know me already, the dashing Half-Elf mage who makes hilarious jokes and has an impeccable taste." He grinned. "Or, more accurately, the Half-Elf mage you vaguely remember from that time he met you and made that joke that you can't quite remember."

I must admit you do seem to have lost your most distinguishing characteristic. Asleep in a bar was it?

He glances at all the papers sticking out from the Mage's pack.

It also seems you have been stocking up on reading materials.

He lowers his voice, as low as possible for lungs the size of barrels.

We may want to keep between this one and Miderun, for his sake, not for hers.

"Yeah, I've discove scrolls and I'm in love!" Joked Warlen. "Speaking of which, I see you have a spare topaz. Any chance I could use it while we are on this quest? I'll return it, of course."

Replying to his remark about Miderun, he just tapped his nose and said, "Agreed."

Certainly my jovial friend, though take care not lose it. I have plans for it upon our return to the city.

Vindsval dips two fingers into his pouch and pulls out the yellow gem.

Here you are. If there is anything else you could make use of. You have but to ask.

The gigantic Priest turns to the rest of the members of the party standing around him at the docks.

I extend the same offer to each of you companions mine. If we are to survive the trials ahead, we all must be arrayed as strongly as possible. The Wanderer shows the path, but we must be prepared to walk it.

My stats are fine.

Miderun looked around the vibrant, lively docks with some recognition, easily the most familiar part of Eubric (minus the Hall) so far. And there was no false image of 'refinement' other places in the city would try to push. Just people going about their business as they would.

She approached the party and the ship, listening intently to Fabio and her gaze becoming increasingly unconcerned.

"Not much of an art person. Only some reading. What is your relationship with the the people - the kuuno of Tridentia?"

Annienal manages to be late, looking exhausted with most of her belongings strapped to her back.

"Um... huff, huff, sorry I'm a little late. I, um... got lost." Annienal felt somewhat nervous around Fabio. She was being hit on again, and it made her feel uncomfortable.

"I, um, must admit, I'm not familiar with your artwork, nor your family, um, Mr. Fabio, sir. My name is Annienal Anavir, Trost- er... well, I guess Heroica." She quickly and awkwardly extends a hand. She looked around. She was familiar with everyone except the ranger. She wondered if like Docken he worshipped the Voice in the Sky.

"Um... hi." She says to the ranger, waving clumsily.

OOC: Stats look good. Thanks for having me, King! :sweet:

Vindsval looks about the docks, taking the the party and the ship.

Master Fabio, it would seem we are all here. The journey is not a short one and it has been a time since your brother posted his notice. May we have your permission to come aboard and we can discuss your situation as we travel?

As it it just registered, The giant looks down at the Warlen.

Did you just call me Windy, Gladeborn?

"Why the Sumeros are an excellent group of artists. Murals, paintings, book covers, everything. Currently we've been contracted out to make an amazing mural for this lovely home."

Warlen extended a hand. "Warlen Melimane, half-elf. Nice meeting you, if you know what I mean. I haven't heard of you either, I'm sorry to say, but considering the impressiveness of this ship I assume you're fairly well off?"

"Oh of course, Mr. Melimane. The painting business has done a lot for my family."

"Not much of an art person. Only some reading. What is your relationship with the the people - the kuuno of Tridentia?"

"Maybe you've seen me on some book covers. I not only run the business side, but I'm also our head model."

"Come aboard the ship, and I'll explain." The Heroes follow Fabio onboard. "There's a beast out there. A big hulking beast. Larger than this.. giant orc here amongst you. We didn't even get to see it, and poor Lyle the Tall, he was one of the explorers we hired to go find the gold lotus. He was decaptitated by this beast, right in front of his brother Virgil the Bold. Apparently it made some vibrant colors."

I am no orc sir, and I would appreciate you not call me such. As you forgave my ignorance I shall forgive yours as well.

What is this Gold Lotus? I can only assume it is used to make paint? Can I also assume that it is this Beast that you wish us to eliminate? Would it be possible for us to speak to Virgil?

As it it just registered, The giant looks down at the Warlen.

Did you just call me Windy, Gladeborn?

"Yep. You've got a 'Warlen Nickname' TM." Warlen grinned widely.

"We got Windy, that's you, Act, Annnie-Mal, Gliding-one, and me, Snorelen.

Vindsval arcs an eyebrow at the Gladeborn.

Really? This is beginning to show signs of being a long voyage. Perhaps there are advantages to being trapped upon deck during transit.

"I've seen plenty of book covers. Which ones in particular?" Annienal's interest in Fabio seems to increase, although her demeanour drops entirely as the man explains the job.

"D-d-decapitated? I, um, oh my... I um, hope this was a, um, solo incident... right?" Annie seemed to get increasingly distressed.

"It's a legendary flower, told to have mythical properties of healing. Maybe it's divine like my hair and really can heal people, but that's what the legends say. Now, due to its mystical golden properties, my brother and I assume that we can crush it up into a dye and use it for painting. It may even have healing properties in a dye form, if it can heal properly. You have no idea the trouble I've gone through arranging the funds for this expedition. As for the beast, I pray it's not there anymore. If this creature is there, you are more than welcome to kill it. On one condition: don't completely destroy the beast. I want to pose with it and have some of our painters paint a dashing visual artwork of me fighting this beast off holding one, or two, of these lovely female companions here."

"Oh the list is too long to state them. I'm sure you've seen at least a few of them. But yes, decapitated. Only one man was killed, poor Lyle. His brother Virgil did ask the Tridentians if there was any scary creature in the forest, but they have not seen any."

Fabio then was interrupted by the captain who whispered into his ear. The blonde man then looked back at the Heroes. "It seems the captain wants us to start sailing now, but he waits for your word. Give your say and we will be off to Tridentia."

Vindsval starts visibly at the man's account of the flower.

You mean to say, you and your brother seek a flower, possibly of Devine origin, only to grind it and make it into paint?

He thinks to himself. By the wanderer the arrogance of this man, but perhaps this explains the origins of the healing tattoos of my father's ancestors. perhaps the inks were made of similar stuff.

He turns back to Fabio. I cannot guarantee the the condition of the beast, should we encounter it. But if it is your pleasure to be seen with it, then so be it. Who are we to question our employer. Though I would caution, watch what you say to the ladies here. They are as formidable as any of us, and I dare say you would wish not to offend.

Let us leave this city. I wish to see the shores of Tridentia once more.

"Hard to think how you're sending people to die over one little myvr and the legends that follow it. But I'm sure we can handle it."

"You should stay your distance though. My fights tend to get messy. Don't want that hair of yours matted with the gore of this abomination, now do you?" Miderun snorted in amusement. "Let's head to Tridentia."

"Right. Sorry, Anngrie-Bull."

Vindsval walks over to the mage, taking care to walk heavily rather than lightly. The boards under warlen's feet bounce and gitter. The Cleric reaches out and grasps Warlen by the shoulder to keep him from falling into the surf. Under his massive hand the Half-Eld looks like a tiny baby being picked up by by a carnival strong man.

Perhaps Warlen, it would be best if you refrained from renaming us until we have the chance to get to know one another better. The better to know our Quirks, our personalities better. He Smiles, showing all of his massive teeth. It would be a shame if you read one of us poorly and it lead to misfortune.

He then smiles quite differently, this one full of actual mirth that reaches his eyes. With a laugh like the surf breaking over boulders he yells. LET US BE OFF FOR TRIDENTIA, THE PATH IS BEFORE US. If the Wanderer wills may the wind and sun be at our backs and our Journey Straight.
