Brick City Depot Buildings

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was just wondering, for those of you guys who have purchased and built buildings from BrickCityDepot.com, how much do the parts to build the sets usually cost? I was thinking about buying these two instruction sets:

https://www.brickcitydepot.com/CB026/smokestacks_coffee_house

https://www.brickcitydepot.com/CB003/city_restaurant

but I want to make sure I'm not going to be spending an exorbitant amount of money on the parts.

Thanks,

I've built a couple of their buildings from instructions (Smokestacks, Commercial Pack 1, Chili's restaurant, City Residential Pack 4). They all came with a XML page that you can use to build a Bricklink Wanted list and then use that to trawl through the available BL stores.

I 'went rogue' on all of the builds by changing the design, color-scheme, substituting bricks and the interior detail to suit my needs and my (then current) inventory, but generally I'd say $0.10-$0.12 per average piece isn't going to too far off the mark. The total cost is going to be dependent on your current inventory - if you're not going to mod anything.

If in doubt you might consider one of the multiple building Packs then build one of them and see how you found the experience before committing to build the other one.

But I found the instructions clear and informative and it was a fun process ordering additional pieces from BL.

Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

I'm in the wrong business. If I had the equipment and time, I could pump out just as good, if not better, buildings. I'm not claiming to be the best modular builder since I don't have a ton of experience, but I've never been so pleased with their work that I'd offer that much money on instructions. But to each their own.

Do they end up being same scale as official Modulars? As in, 2000+ pieces and height and everything?

We bought a number of them; our absolute favourite was their Architect's firm.

A joy to build, brilliantly designed, inside and out, and all parts pretty well available at Bricklink.

Cost us about 200 Euros in total (all new parts).

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll probably go through with a smaller one to start out, probably the City Restaurant. Thanks!

I have built the city restaraunt ,cost between $300 and $400 aud to Brink link all parts although i was not very adept at Bricklink at the time and i also purchased other parts with the batches. It is a nice building and the top sits about level with the second floor of the grand emporium.

Excellent instructions, good techniques and a lot of small pieces in this set.

I thought the plans were good value ,i get the some people like to do it all themselves but have no hassle paying $10 to $15 to someone who was done all the work to create a nice looking building that i would like to recreate.

I really like his new twin pack buliding too.

I really enjoy building from BCD instructions. I usually spend about 10 cents per piece for about 1/3 of the pieces requires. Most of the time, I can find about 2/3rd of the pieces required from my inventory. The WWII French Folding House was my first foray into using profesionally designed instructions to construct a building. Since then I have built four oher BCD designs: Canal Street Houses, Amsterdam Hotel, and Consulate, plus all of the BCD Mini-Modulars. If you love the modular series, then BCD is the perfect choice while you are waiting for TLG to produce a new modular set.
