[LDD MOC] Commander Sato's Flagship

Recommended Posts

Now known as Phoenix Home. Spoiler alert for Star Wars: Rebels!

Ideas project (picture is link):

After watching the Star Wars: Rebels Season 2 trailer way too many times, I decided that Commander Sato's ship is one of my favorite ships in the Star Wars universe. I always liked the Pelta-class frigate, but it just looks so much cooler with this new color scheme, and it's background makes it much more unique and iconic than the Pelta frigates of the Clone Wars. So, taking inspiration from the Pelta-class Frigate in LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, I spent a few hours every day for the past week building this ship in LDD.

The A-wings can be placed into the hanger through the back, which is a one-way system. They can then be released from the front by rotating the two technic pieces on either side of the hanger (which aren't connected, unfortunately, which makes it a bit more difficult to do than I would like). Still figuring out what to do with the rest of the interior, suggestions are welcome. I also made a min Ghost to go with it, which can dock with the ship just like is seen in the show.

Here's a shot of the ship from Season 2's concept art, for comparison:

Any criticism is more than welcome. It certainly isn't perfect, there are a few things I would like to change already. Thanks for looking!

With too many things to do I haven't managed to find the time to properly watch Rebels, but looking at this representation of the ship alone, I must make time. This looks like a very nice job. I hope you get the interior details that you want sorted out and look forward to your updates.

I particularly like the folding engine bay detail at the back.

This is great! I missed the trailer so I'll have to go and watch it. Any chance we could get the LDD file?

Thanks! I added the LDD file to the original post. It's a tiny bit different from the version in the images, but the changes are mostly for the sake of stability. The entire top covering isn't connected at all to the rest of the ship, so you can use the Connected Selection Tool and move it aside to get a look at the interior. It's mostly empty, but I tried to implement what we've seen so far. The front portion made up of the cone pieces is also meant to be removable, so you can either just hide or move any of those pieces to get a look at the cockpit.

Thank you! I definitely recommend the show. The first season takes place mostly on a single planet, but it looks like season 2 will be more about the Rebellion as a whole, which is very exciting. The first few episodes aren't great, but it really picks up near the end of the season, so it's definitely worth it.

The Pelta class and the Arquitens class are my two favorite capital ships from the Clone Wars. Really hope Lego makes a Arquitens class that is just as amazing as your Pelta class!

Thank you for the replies everyone! I've added the concept art to the first post as a comparison, as many probably haven't seen the ship before.

So the episode has released, but it didn't give us much of a look at the interior of the ship beyond the bridge. As such, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the interior, of which I've only used half. I added a picture to the first post showing what I have so far. Also added to the first post is a mini Ghost that I made to go along with it, as well as a link to the Ideas project I put up.

You've even added the A-Wing hangar. As for the interior, I imaging it would still be simalar to the TCW Peltas.

That's probably true, I think I'll go back and watch any episodes that take place inside one and see if I can incorporate some of that.

Did you ever go back and revamp the interior?

I don't like the ship very much (espcially those big rotating "wings", and the bridge).

But you did a nice job. Your model looks clean, and accurate.

You have good joins between all angled elements, which is something very important to have a nicely executed design.

Very good work as well on the textures (stud/tiles balance).

edit : I checked your LDD. You could have put only 1 big cone piece on each side of the nose. By rotating it by 90°, you could have achieve a slightly bigger and more detailed cockpit.

Some part do not exist in the color you used. Part 14719 has not been produced yet in DBG.

Why isn't this brick-built yet, that's what I want to know!

Working on it! I'm going to have to paint a part or two, just because they're important to the overall color scheme, but other than that I've made the proper adjustments and am working on building it now.

I did. Not sure I'm happy with it yet, but here's what I have:

Thank you! I didn't even consider only doing only one cone on each side, I'm definitely going to change that right now. As for some colors not existing as I used them, I have made a few changes recently so that I can build it myself. Though the large orange/yellow wedge plates can't really be changed, as they're important to the color scheme, so I plan on using some paint for those.

It's not bad, it looks nicely uncluttered though.

I don't know what's subject accurate in this case (I don't know the ship) but sometimes using some brighter and more distinguished colors for the interior heavily improves the look of it. Since this is mostly gray/back, I'd try colors like yellow, tan/dark tan etc. And maybe in this particular case, tones of blue (dark/medium azur) could be nice!

Thanks for the suggestions! It's really appreciated. Here's the new interior:

I tried to add a few touches of color, but I'm not sure how well it went.

Is there anyway I can get a LDD copy of this. Great Work. You did a much better job than Lego did with this!

The link to the file is in the very last post before yours..!

@ TheNerdyOne_:

I really like your take on the ship and thanks for sharing the file with the public! The interior still could use some more detail if you ask me. Maybe you could try adding some walls with doors to structure the whole interior a bit more clearly. :)

Nice job not a fan of the way this ship looks but you do it justice ,it looks good and its way better then that thing Lego attempted to make and sell.
