Got a box of Lego to sort!

Recommended Posts

Got a big box from eBay. It had talked about there being pirate sets (which were my favourite in the 90s as a kid - I sold them as a teenager) in there and I could see lots of pieces for the governors big fort, the pirate island/treehouse thingy and the clipper. That had me interested but there were a couple of ship hulls too, plenty figs etc.

Turns out there is quite a bit more in there. I thing a load of space, some old castle, at least 1 big technic vehicle and poss a small Harry Potter and Indiana Jones set - judging by the transfers.

So far, I've been through it all on some level

- picked out the megabloks

- separated out small pieces, figs, transfers, sunlight faded pieces and given them all a bath. Sunlight pieces now outside - never done a soak for these before so see how it goes!

Now I have some fun times ahead picking through the box seeing what I can build. No instructions came with it so I will have to largely guess what sets might be in there.

I'm going to start with the big pirate sets for lots of reasons then probably look up that Space base and the ship hulls - and just keep going!

For a bit of fun, I'm going to put some pictures of my progress up here. No one has to read along if it's boring!

For me it will be fun to chart what sets come out of this lot:

Hi

I have about 95% of quite a few sets so will be able to start building more soon I hope.

Managed to get this one - 5938 - oasis ambush out today. The 2 side panels are unique to this set which enabled me to identify it.

Missing a hat and pistol but sure they will turn up sooner or later!

Gosh the amount of time it would take to sort through LEGO pieces, takes some patience eh? I too have been wanting to rebuild some sets, but when I go in and try to find parts, I end up giving up, because that one piece, never shows up.

It's kind of therapeutic. I don't even have the advantage of knowing which sets are in there!

When I was a kid, my dad got this big bank of clear plastic drawers. They were a shop display stand that someone he did some work for was throwing out.

Must have been 5' tall x 4' wide min. The dividers were fixed but set at increasingly larger compartment sizes from top to bottom. This was the perfect solution to that problem.

Now I'm out the dark ages, I need something similar again!

Got another one built!

5919 - Valley of the Kings

Just missing a skeleton leg and a hat. (Edit (28/2) - the skeleton leg turned up - it was in the box of tiny items that I must have dug through a thousand times but only spotted it today!)

I quite like this Egypt theme.

Next might be Ninjago - I have quite a few white bricks with "Turbo" written on them - is that where they are from? Or some car/city/racing sets?

I was a bit unsure on the heads but even after another look I can't find the correct one. Maybe he'll turn up as more sets get built.

Thanks for pointing it out - I am a stickler for these things and would like the sets to be correct!

Got another couple of sets out. Both from the Aquazone theme. This wasn't intentional - just the sets that some unique bricks that I looked up happened to be from.

6145 - Crystal Crawler - just missing the minifigure head

6115 - Shark Scout - complete!

Got two little sets out, both 100% complete

- 6431: Road Rescue - Identifed as only 2 sets have the front sloping brick with "RES Q" printed on it. I don't think I have the other RES Q set, though I do have another one of those sloping bricks.

- 6521: Emergency Repair Truck - a very old set and it shows in the bricks. Identified as the highway panels are unique to it.

I'm not far off finding all the bits for some larger sets so hope to get those built and up here soon!

Hi VintageLegoEra - Glad you like it!

Managing to get out 7131 - Anakin's Podracer out during the week.

Identified due to the logo on the front slope and the fact I had a load of those yellow things clipped into grey hinges.

I'm missing one of the hooks for the R2D2 thingy. I have various hoses but I think they might be for Technic rather than this so I'll see if I can add them later.

I have no idea about Star Wars - I've never seen it. But this set seems long and gangly and a bit rubbish to me. I think there are better Lego flying thingys around. Anyway...here it is!

Awesome. I love going through boxes and sorting pieces out. It's fun.

I usually find a lot of cool stuff in there. I used see through containers and big plastic drawers.

Thanks for your support.

I have 99% of the parts for a big set. I think the other 1% aren't in the mess so I may as well get it built.

Going to put on a pot of tea this weekend and get it built. Watch this space! :)

Sorry - hadn't realised I was breaking a rule. Have resized so hopefully its now ok.

I said watch this SPACE. I built 6959 Lunar Launch Site this morning.

A fine set. Has a little buggy, a flying thing, and a mountain that slides opens to reveal a rocket you can launch!

I'm missing a few blue neon pieces but nothing I can't live without or easily replace

6959_-_lunar_launch_site.jpg

Re the technic set - I'd like to build it but I'm missing some key pieces - including a large wheel. It definitely isn't in the box as you can't miss it.

I'm logging any missing pieces and when I next buy something from Lego I'll order as many as I can.

Some of the pictures you included again (after I turned them into links) above still violate the maximum image size restrictions. Please resize those as well.

Really? I've just looked at the files and they all are small in both pixels and size. I used a resizing utility. Please let me know which are wrong and why and I'll correct but at the moment I don't understand. Cheers

I got some more sets out last night that I'd like to post up but I only want to be doing it once! :)

None of the above images violate the regulations

Images rarely need to be over 800 x 600, and any that are over 1MB (including GIFs) are not allowed unless there is admin approval. BMPs are never allowed. Avatar images should be 100 x 100 (and under 20k if hosted on EB), and may not be more than 400 x 400 (and 100k, even if hosted remotely). No animated GIFs are to be used as avatars. Before registering, please familiarize yourself with these tutorials to learn how to reduce your own images. Also, when quoting, don't quote images unless it is specifically needed. This just fills up posts with repeat images for no reason.

Sorry, it must have been my image cache then. All your images are fine. Thanks for resizing everything.
