Firstly, I'm surprised this wasn't opened earlier, second, I'm starting to feel slightly worried that I'm the first poster... :sceptic: Am I going to get an angry mob of Sci-Fi fans chasing me down the street for posting without information...? And also, while I spend 99% of the time in the Star Wars forum, I do have a peek here sometimes as I am a Sci-Fi fan too (Duh, I like Star Wars!)!

What 2015 sci-fi sets? Why is this thread open, Bob, do you know something we don't?!?

It wasn't opened before because... well for now there is no 2015 sets... :sceptic:

I sincerely hope there will be some sci-fi Lego news to talk about this year!

We all hope for it, I don't understand why TLG don't produce Sci-Fi sets. Star Wars can't totally replace a Sci-Fi line...

What 2015 sci-fi sets? Why is this thread open, Bob, do you know something we don't?!?

I opened the thread like I did for 2014... In the hope we'll have something to post and discuss!

Sadly those will most likely be City sets, and so discussed in the Town subforum.

Yes they come under the City Explore banner. I'm hoping these have classic space feel because I don't think we'll ever see it in the sci fi themes as it doesn't have a strong enough conflict element. Chances are it will just be a white space shuttle, a launch pad and some miscellaneous vehicles, but Lego's use of thebword 'explore' gives me some slim hope that it will be more adventure focussed than the old space port sets.

Ooh, if these were somehow Earth-based Classic Space sets, I would have a reason to be excited!

It's funny - looking back on 2014, the Exo-Suit and Benny's SSS were enough to get me pumped about LEGO again! As it stands, I don't know... As you say, this sounds like a pretty big long shot but even the chance that a shuttle could be more blue/trans-yellow than white and black gives me goosebumps!

I found an early London Toy Fair report from Brick Fanatics linked in Reddit. While it was pretty disappointing from a Lego SciFi perspective, there was one interesting piece of news.

Quote:

Firstly there is a massive single standalone set: 60097 City Square £139.99, 14 minifigs (including a green Futuron guy and a Knight to go in the Lego Store), Coffee chain, LEGO store with Pick a Brick, truck, garage, tram and stop, hot dog cart (diff to free giveaway one) and a police station.

The green classic space man was the highlight of 2014 for me, so this is pretty exciting news. It sounds like they may be tough to get, but I need at least one to be the admiral in charge of my green space contingent.

including a green Futuron guy

Pretty sure this is just the Exo-suit guy. If it's an actual Futuron chest, that would be awesome.

Full agreement.

It would also have the effect of making these guys fit in a lot better, since they were the only ones to have green clothes.

This hadn't occurred to me when I read the article, but I have to admit that you're probably right. However, Lego has shown a willingness to throw in references to classic space in other themes, and for the cost of a new torso print (any maybe new arms/torso combo) it would create a bit more buzz than just including the green classic space figure that is still available. I'm going to stay cautiously optimistic and hope we see pictures soon.

Ahhhhh... I would prefer a new colour for the airtanks, but I suppose it's green so that they can reuse the one from the Exo Suit.

But any of these colours would please me!

If it is Futuron and not just the classic guy, that also gets me curious about the knight. Could it be a new version of an old one?

Oh man... a set that pricey just to get one green Futuron guy?

Yeah, I'd do it... but a part of me kind of hopes it's not true. At least it'd be a fun set, though.

I'd love to see more city space sets. Watching the space shuttle and rocket stuff sell on ebay for crazy prices is disheartening. :(

There will be some new city space sets in 2015, but as all city sets, they will be discussed in the Town forum

Even if they're launching vessels in blue, grey and trans-yellow, hmm? ;)

One way to guess if it will be Futuron or just a classic space guy is the look at other minifigs being produced around the same time or recently. Torso color + arm color + hands. Futuron would be a white torso with green arms and hands. Exo suit classic space style would be all three green. We only got the green CS guys because that combo was most available due to TMNT. Has anything lately used a white torso with green arms and hands?

This year is looking very thin for space with the exception of the city sets, normal cmfs don't seem to happen as often now so a green Futuron man might be the highlight which is sad as I don't think I will be getting that set.

Nearly, but not exactly, according to Bricklink.

White with green arms and dark bley hands - it could be used as a 'modern' version of the design.

Grey torso with green arms and hands - although it's less likely than the other one, it could be used as sort of a 'armored' suit - although with it being a Town set, probably not.

Another thing to consider is that these days printing white on a coloured torso yields decent results. It's slightly possible that an all green torso/arms/hands could be used with a white triangle printed on the front and something on the back.

With Pirates this year and the rumors of Castle returning in the first half of 2016, I don't think we'll see Space soon.

Maybe second half of 2016 or early 2017

Keep in mind the uptick in interest in Classic Space started largely with the popularity of Benny from TLM. It will take them some time to fully act on or capitalize that, and new themes are planned 2-3 years out. So I figure 2016 is likely.

Considering the release of other classic themes i'm starting to get my hopes up. Castle in 2014, pirates in 2015, plus a few sub themes such as agents, aqua?zone (any else?) so maybe Space in 2016 .. . ?
