[LDD Contest] My Dream Home - Modern House

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

This is my entry for the Dream Home LDD Contest - Free Build

Although I'm a software engineer by education, I dabble in architecture and interior design as a hobby here and there.

This house is a concept i've had in my head for some time and it represents a dream home for me.

In my vision, this house is placed on the edge of a cliff, the living room and bedroom areas are suspended over the abyss and held by columns. Imagine waking up in such a room to an unobscured view of surrounding hills and forests.

The house is an open space, without doors (except on the bathroom :) ), rooms separated only by wall panels. Walls are made of brick and glass, and the floors, including the terrace, are teak.

In current state, it is basically a bachelor pad :) There's a garage, a living room, bedroom and bathroom. No kitchen at the moment (although i enjoy cooking), so I guess there would be a lot of eating out :)

On with the pics:

The "squareness" of the house is broken by the curved bathroom wall

What good is a bachelor pad without a nice porsche in the garage? :)

Rare sight in a men's bedroom - a made bed :)

Who can guess the lego set on the shelf? (not a tough question, I'm sure)

I hope you enjoyed the presentation, it was really fun and exciting for me to materialize something I imagined for so long. It's a shame i will probably never be able to build it due to a huge brick count (the lego version :) )

<shameless propaganda>If you really like the house, kindly head over to the LEGO digital forum and vote for it :) </shameless propaganda>

(theres also a .lxf file there if you are interested)

Cheers!

Very cool looking house!! It's the best so far in the contest (besides my entry  )

I suppose if you can ever afford to build it for real you'll be able to afford to eat out every night

Good luck for the contest and happy building

So now we've seen the maquette, where's the LEGO model?

Ow, this is the LEGO model? Amazing! Really, congratulations on this marvelous building. The huge variation and the consistency in one build. I can't believe how you made all the little interior decorations (like the UCS Imperial Shuttle  ) and such gems like the Porsche and the branch-like decorations. The plants, the curved wall... everything is just amazing. The front does look a wee dull though, and things like lights, a doormat and -bell would brighten up the place a bit.

Still, one of the greatest houses I've seen here to date. I pitty you computer though. The house does look like a computermelter  .

A good thing there is a Porsche in that garage. If it were a red italian sportscar, this house would be too reminiscent of a famous eighties teenmovie ;-)

Beautiful work! Spacious and well thought out.

Are you sure that's a Porsche and not an Aston Martin? Because that looks a lot like it could be James Bond's house, and we know which brand he prefers.

:)

Yeah, the front was supposed to have vegetation had a driveway, but alas, no time...

The rendering was a pain alright, I had 2 computers running renders for 2 days without a break. CPUs at 100% the whole time.... Could of made a barbeque of it :)

If it was Bond's house I doubt the bed would be so neatly made

Also, the liqueur cabinet is missing

Yeah now we are talking!

This is truly impressive. I mean i'm not sure what I like the most: the house itself or the quality of the render! These render would have kill my poor laptop for sure.

I really appreciate your contemporary architecture style, style that I appreciate to. I am aware that you've made something that suit up your needs and for me, it is a really important details. Open space yes, but just enought and not too much useless things. I'm happy to not see this here!

I got to admit that those interior details really kills me, such as the wooden structure behind the bed, the shelf and the carpet. Oh and what about that opening garage door! Its not white!

I'm curious to know what were your settings for your render? AA or not? Top details? If you can tell us it can be interesting.

Now maybe I should start doing some shameless propaganda too!

Well done

Harton

As a matter of fact the renders are not top quality at all. It would have taken 30+ hours for one render on max details

I used LDD to POV-Ray Converter with the following settings:

Model:

Level Of Detail 2/4

Don't bevel transparent parts

Use part specific bevel sizes

Scene:

Set color to: white

Camera:

perspective LDD default

Lights:

Light1 50% Shadow 20%

Light2 50%Shadow 20%

Light3 50%Shadow 20%

Radiosity

Custom

Rendering:

1680 x 1050

Anti Aliasing: method 1

Quality: 9/12

This render takes about 3 hours on a quad core cpu
