A comment on the editing is that it is good to use a background when taking the picture of approximately the same color as the intended digital background, alternatively do the edges very carefully. This is one that I liked. That looks really good. I really need to use that program myself as I have it and my photos could be touched up relatively easily it seems. I just fear the lasso tool. GIMP opens up a world of possibilities it's true, but I too have feared taking that first step. I would recommend doing what I've done and trying it in small steps. So far it's been worth it. There are so many new things to think about as I take pictures I was running into a problem taking a picture of a Stormtrooper minifig and trying to crop out the background.
