220Bfour Royal Marines was all that was left of the whole division. For days now they tried to get back to the shore, encountering nothing but devastated land. They were slowed down by young marine Edwards who suffered from a gunshot into the shoulder. But in this darkest hour of the night, when the group camped inside a ruin that had seen some recent fighting, they would soon be "released" of this burden. Comforting his soldier, Lieutenant Harrison told Edwards stories of his childhood in Plymouth while the young slowly faded into his last sleep.
