Toys“R”Us and LEGO Systems, Inc. have once again formed the ultimate construction event at Toys“R”Us stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com, shaping October into “Bricktober.” Customers will find a LEGO celebration at Toys“R”Us stores throughout the month, highlighted by weekly specials on LEGO products, a special Cars 2 event, dedicated boutiques filled with LEGO sets and more. To commemorate this year’s “Bricktober” event, LEGO Systems, Inc. and Toys“R”Us have returned to the LEGO archives to reissue four classic LEGO minifigures as limited-edition magnets. One minifigure magnet will be released each week at Toys“R”Us stores.

Customers interested in “Bricktober” will find the following excitement at Toys“R”Us stores and Toysrus.com starting Sunday, October 2:

Retro LEGO Minifigures Released from Archives

The tiny constructible minifigures that are the stars of many LEGO sets, have become a collector phenomenon over the decades. To ensure LEGO enthusiasts have something extra-special to look forward to during “Bricktober,” Toys“R”Us and LEGO Systems, Inc. are rereleasing four of the most sought-after minifigures in LEGO history as collectible magnets. Throughout October, customers who purchase $20 worth of LEGO construction sets or board games at Toys“R”Us stores and online at Toysrus.com will receive a complimentary, limited edition LEGO minifigure from times past.

  1. From Sunday, October 2 to Saturday, October 8, customers will discover the Ninja Princess, first introduced in theNinja series that ran from 1998 to 2000. Originally introduced in 1999, this feisty figure was also included in the 2010 Vintage Minifigure Collection Volume 5.
  2. From Sunday, October 9 to Saturday, October 15, LEGO fans can find Rob N. Hood, leader of the Forestmen faction of the Castle theme. First released in 1990, Rob N. Hood led a merry band of skilled archers who enjoyed food and good times.
  3. From Sunday, October 16 to Saturday, October 22, collectors can pick up a rerelease of one of the original LEGO minifigures - the classic Knight. This medieval minifigure first appeared in the 1978 Castle series.
  4. From Sunday, October 23 to Saturday, October 29, LEGO collectors can rediscover the Black Classic Spaceman. Originally issued in 1984, this astronaut was the least commonly used version of the space-faring minifigure, only appearing in 9 LEGO sets between 1984 and 1986.

During the event, kids can build and decorate their own version of Rod “Torque” Redline – the greatest American spy in the world! And, attention race fans, Rod “Torque” Redline is not available in any Cars 2 LEGO sets and can only be found during this event.

The special Cars2 event sounds very funny. Shame that it is not happening in ToysRus in Denmark. Looking forward to seeing how Rod “Torque” Redline looks like. It is a little late (and expensive) to buy plane-tickets to the US for just this thing. Americans please give us a "review" of the different events. Thanks.

I really want to get them all! :classic: especially with the podracers on sale.

P.S.: I think they come in a package, not glued, just like last year.

Is this global or selected countries or selected stores?

As far as I know it´s for USA.

The first one is out:

I've gotten the first. It's definitely glued. you can remove the white headpiece and the head itself, but the legs are glued to the magnet and the torso is glued to the legs.

this one is kinda annoying - the last magnet I got (last year?) had what looked like a 1x2 plate behind the legs to move the fig forward on the magnet. This one doesn't, but that headcover has a clip on the back for a sword, which means it hits the wall and the fig has to always be slightly bent forward :(

These magnets defeat the purpose of their existence. A magnet that is ALSO a fig is awesome. A magnet that is and only ever will be a magnet is meh.

CopMike-- do you have any information about the Week2 sales? I'm DESPERATELY trying to find this info!!

As I mentioned in the unofficial topic on this, I'm looking for a set, just one of each, if anyone manages to score a few extras. Both of the TRUs that were nearby/near areas I travel through have closed in the past few months and there is no chance I'm getting to the next nearest ones, which are a good distance off.

If you can help and take Paypal (and are reasonable in your expectations ), please let me know.

Thanks!

On topic, shame they're glued. Seems so pointless. :sceptic:

At least they look good.

Nobody else is weirded out that the forestman's name is "Rob N. Hood"? Have any of those guys ever been assigned names before?

This makes me think of the pirate naming thread over in the pirates area of the forum. (Names were pulled from comics and other literature.)

Does anyone know if the 30% off sales will be the same all month?

TRU varies their sales weekly, sadly the set I'd be most likely to buy is 30% this week with a magnet that holds little interest compared to week 2 or week 3 magnet sets.

Every week they will feature different sets at the 30% off price while the entire month every set is 10% off. This is TRU's way of unloading built up inventory of the older sets. It's also a way to sell the newer stuff for early christmas shoppers.

That's too bad. :sceptic: I was looking to get the Earth Defense HQ on sale, but I don't know if I'll be able to get down to TRU before this weekend.

Thanks for your answer, though! I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll have on sale next week.

This makes me think of the pirate naming thread over in the pirates area of the forum. (Names were pulled from comics and other literature.)

It's probably a regional name. Lots of themes have had character names specific to certain regions, some of which are even found in set names. I haven't done nearly as much research into old Castle themes as I have into old Space themes, but in the U.K. the Forestman was just plain old "Robin Hood" (as seen in set 6054 "Robin Hood's Tree Hideaway", 6066 "Robin Hood's Secret Cave", and 6077 "Robin's Lake Stronghold"). If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say "Rob N. Hood" would probably be a U.S. name, since the names from U.S. and U.K. catalogs and story media tend to be the most lasting names from my experience.

It's noteworthy that Rob N. Hood was the U.S. name for the main character of the later regionally-exclusive Dark Forest theme, as seen in the video game LEGO Racers and LEGO Mania Magazines. So it's possible that if the forestman's name isn't sourced from the original Forestmen theme, the name could have been retconned onto him after Dark Forest.

Alternatively, this topic shows all four of this year's Bricktober magnets, and the packaging for him just says Forestman. So "Rob N. Hood" could just be a result of an over-ambitious press release writer grasping for a name with more specificity to the character than just "Forestman". The name Forestman doesn't have as much specificity since it's been used also for the one in the Series 1 Minifigures as well as any other figs from that original castle subtheme.

Meanwhile, I can't help but notice that all the figs in this new Bricktober promotion were already produced for Vintage Minifigure Collections: the knight and forestman in volume 4, the black classic spaceman in Volume 2, and the white Ninja Princess in volume 5. So the minifigures themselves aren't all that exclusive, although I'm sure getting your hands on the vintage minifigure collections is no easy task. Since both the vintage minifigure collections and the Bricktober magnet figs are made in China, this Bricktober event could have been just a means of getting rid of surplus produced then (or taking advantage of printing patterns already available). Other parts from the vintage minifigure collections have occasionally turned up in LEGO store Build-A-Mini stations, so they may still (or at least, someday) be available to people who miss out on this event, or who have no use for glued minifigures.

I just got back from TRU and the deals for week 2 are not very good as was stated above. I ended up buying a new Kingdoms and Ninjado set to get past the $20 mark to receive the magnet. Even in week one all sets were 10% off so I was quite surprised to find such limited deals. Hopefully weeks 3 and 4 will be much better. If you're into the Lego games then I guess it's a good week.
