Sandy Posted April 24, 2011 An excerpt from the diary of Dr. Archibald Q. Hale: It all began when I met my colleague from Cairo University, Dr. Cleo Patra, in an archeological conference. She had uncovered a parchment that told the legend of a moving pyramid built by the infamous Pharaoh Amset-Ra. I instantly knew that my friend Jake Raines, an adventuring relic hunter, would be interested in hearing this. How right I was. Jake and his accomplices Helena Skvalling and Mac McCloud book the next flight to Cairo, and together the five of us planned to seek out the elusive pyramid. Unfortunately Dr. Patra had plans of her own. She has been in contact with the spirit of Amset-Ra through an ancient dagger she possesses, and now she believes the undead pharaoh will take her as his bride. Furthermore, she somehow turned Mac against us and had him steal our maps, so the only thing we could do was follow the traces of the rogue duo. When we finally caught up with Dr. Patra and Mac, we saw a small pyramid looming in front of us. But lo and behold, right before our eyes it started rising from the sand, growing two pairs of legs and a head, and walked away. The pyramid was another one of Amset-Ra's living statues, modeled after a camel! I present you the ultimate direct-to-customer set from the Pharaoh's Quest theme: The Walking Pyramid Experience the latest adventure of Jake Raines and his gang as they race against the cunning Dr. Cleo Patra and the treacherous Mac McCloud to find the legendary Walking Pyramid. But little do they know that they are against the mummified Pharaoh Amset-Ra and his undead guards. Measuring a maximum of 50 cm in height and up to 44 cm in width, this set tops even the biggest AT-AT set from the Star Wars theme in size. The set features twelve minifigures. But it's height is not the only impressive thing about the Walking Pyramid... It also contains a hidden tomb that lifts through the roof, also opening the doors to the interior. The legs can also be bent in a multitude of ways, and each of them has a compartment for the mummy soldiers to hide in. The back of the pyramid opens up to reveal an entrance to the tomb. Two Anubis statues guard the passage. The pharaoh holds his most valuable relics inside the tomb - he needs to take them with him where-ever he goes, after all. The entire roof can be lifted off for better access. The twelve minifigures in the set include Jake Raines in a new, white Lawrence-of-Arabia-esque attire, his allies Helena Skvalling and Dr. Archibald Hale also in modified clothing, their rival Dr. Cleo Patra with her enchanted dagger, the traitor Mac McCloud in black, and Pharaoh Amset-Ra along with six of his soldiers (2 mummy warriors, 2 Anubis Guards, 1 Horus Guard and 1 camel driver). The set also features two camels for the heroes and their rivals to ride on. Thank you for viewing my entry! I can give you the exact piece count when I dismantle the set, but for now I have no idea how many pieces have went into the set. There must be a cazillion of the tiny golden round plates alone. Gregorovich Posted April 24, 2011 This is a very clever build, and it fits well with the rest of the theme. The giant camel looks a little odd, but is very well designed, and is exactly the way I think LEGO would do it. It's interior is excellent, and its head is great. There's the right amount of detail for a D2C set, and you included a suitable amount of minifigures. This has turned out to be one helluva competition with a ridiculous amount of awesome entries, but I sure hope my unique idea stands out in the crowd... I feel like I've given my all. I don't even remember how many times I redid those legs to get them to work properly. I think that this includes everything it should, but perhaps a dark red vehicle would make it more Pharaoh's Quest-ish? You're right, but I was kinda hoping the two camels would replace the vehicle. I'd actually be happier to get two camels in a set than a car, but I just thought that because all the PQ sets have one it would make this fit in more. Sandy Posted April 28, 2011 The only thing I don't like is the idea of Mac going bad, it just doesn't feel right to me. But he's the fumbling anti-hero type of the group who is always outmatched by the heroic Jake Raines (at least that's the impression I got from the official website's description). Those type of characters always go bad, so I thought I was being too clichéd with that twist. If it's any consolidation, the mad Dr. Patra is controlling Mac with her enchanted dagger, and once she bites the dust Mac will surely see the mistake he's done. Sandy Posted May 14, 2011 Thank you for the kind words, and a great big thanks to all of you who voted for my entry! The competition was so tough that I did not make it to the top three, but I think I did quite well, considering the high overall quality of the entries.
