Kingdoms Drangon Knights "proper" Fortress MOC

Recommended Posts

Hello Eurobricks community, this is my first MOC and it might very well be my favorite one!

Background: I have always been in love with the Kingdoms series and loved every single set they made for it which I think many of you guys can agree on. But I have always had one argument about the theme and that was how there was no proper fortress for the dragon knights, yeah sure you had prison tower rescue, and escape from the dragons prison but those weren't fortresses or castles they were more like a section of a wall with a gate. nothing interesting at all! :hmpf_bad:, So I had a great idea of combining those two sets and making a bigger fortress, all I would have to do is add some pieces to the thing to complete it. So this is my finished product, you will notice those two sets within my fortress.

Right off the bat there she is! You will notice the prison tower rescue is mostly the super structure for the front of the fortress, I did extend out the right side and removed the stairs to the left.

This is the right side of the fortress and you will notice that it is very similar the kings castle. You will also notice that octagon style of tower.

Then this is the back. It is very similar to the right side but instead on the far right there is the stairs that were in the front of the prison tower rescue, but blocked off and locked by the gate in the set escape from the dragons prison.

Then this is the left side of the fortress! My favorite side too! The rock structure took along time to make! I did remove the rock that was originally on the prison tower rescue to add a way for the lion knights to get inside the fortress! And you will notice the prison bars built into the rock.

not much in the room there but it is mainly made as an entrance not a social gathering.

And there is a closer look at the prison bars, and yes that is the original branch that was in the prison tower rescue.

Now for more in depth picture, instead of a prison at the top of the tower I made it a place where the dragon knights can display there kingdom jewel!

26539909711_416bc17ea0_c.jpgWP_20160423_16_03_29_Pro by jameswestman, on Flickr

The tower in the far back right corner is complete and decked out.

26539884041_48a2a5bd32_c.jpgWP_20160423_16_05_25_Pro by jameswestman, on Flickr

The last floor of the tower is just a place where the dragon lord can store his royal hoarse!

26539886061_84d4de5519_c.jpgWP_20160423_16_05_15_Pro by jameswestman, on Flickr

The second floor is where the dragon knights store there royal gold!

26605694525_77b4d1f36a_c.jpgWP_20160423_16_05_44_Pro by jameswestman, on Flickr

Then the third floor is where the dragon lord will "rest". And by rest I mean yelling at all of his knights from his balcony. Then the very top there is mainly just a watch tower where you can stage some fights or just pose figures.

26332287410_f4b41e06b0_c.jpgWP_20160423_16_06_25_Pro by jameswestman, on Flickr

The interior of the lords resting quarters consist of some weapon racks where he can store his sword and shield and in the middle that's where he will set his helmet or his wig.

26605724495_49bb8f57a4_c.jpgWP_20160423_16_03_11_Pro by jameswestman, on Flickr

The back left tower is the two ends of escape from the dragons prison set combined to make one complete tower.

There you can see how I extended the front right walkway out.

And that is it for my MOC and to see the set in play I added a section for what can go down for kids.

And there we have it! I hope you enjoyed and I will be happy to answer any question you might have for me!

Looks good! I like the design - it has the same feel as LEGO's recent "good guy" castle sets, including the Kingdoms one. Nice job incorporating the tower and gate into the overall fortress! The trap door that drops into the prison cell is a nice touch.

Thanks for the reply! :classic:The trap door was one of the last editions to the fortress along with the tower in the far back.

I also like the classic Lego set feeling this has to it. It looks like the last two castles Lego has made and fits well. I always did wish that Lego would release two castles at a time, one for good and one for bad guys. The play features are a nice touch as well, the trap door is a Lego classic!

That was what I was trying to aim at here. I wanted it to not look out of place with my lion knights castle, and the trap door had to be done. It couldn't be a evil fortress without a trap door to a prison!

I will agree, this definitely has a "classic" feel to it.

One photography tip - try to take the photo in a brightly, evenly lit room. With it being a pretty dark build, the darkness of the photos (or at least the shadows in the photos) make some of the photos a little tough to see some details. The other tip is that your background is kinda busy, and blends in a bit with the build...further making it kinda tough to fully appreciate what you've done through these photos.

Yeah I need to make my photos better for sure thanks for that! And I appreciate the tips thanks! And I was trying to keep a classic feel to it so it would match up with future or past Lego castles

Great way to make a proper castle for the Dragon Knights  It is easily identifiable as theirs by the main gate, and color use.

Good play features inside too :classic:

A very detailed castle. Is it based on 7947? I recognise the set of the gates.

That is exactly what it is based off of, it was just a tower so I thought I would make it the front gate. Thanks for the comment

Thank you for the comment, it is always appreciated! I wanted to make it where it looks nice on a shelf but a kid can still have fun with it

Really like the dark green as a highlight, nice build!

The dark green and the black makes it a perfect evil feel to it, thanks for the comment

My first MOC was also around the kingdom theme... but was certainly not as good as yours. The whole castle is very nice and everything fits together... Great job.

Thank you for the comments! I was surprised my self for how well it turned out! I had like 50 of those big black window molds and I wanted to put them in good use.
