[MOC] - UCS X34 Landspeeder

Recommended Posts

Here is project I've been toying with since November - UCS X34 Landspeeder MOC. There has been a lack of land vehicles in the UCS line-up. I built with LDD initially and after six versions I ended my journey with this - although updates are already brewing. It measures 22.5 inches in length, 15.5 inches in width and 14.5 inches in height with the stand at 2798 pieces. Would love to hear any comments or critiquing on this. I am by no means an experienced MOC builder as this is only my second MOC - the first being a UCS Tie Fighter. I had the best time doing this and I'm looking forward to my next build. Let me know what you think...https://www.flickr.c...57649885427838/If you like this MOC, feel free to "Support" it:https://ideas.lego.c.../91535/comments

Well golly gosh - that really is quite spectacular. The engines, the grille and especially the bonnet work really well. It even some how looks dirty and used with exactly the right amounts of studs showing on the surfaces. In particular the dark red trim on top just looks right. I am sure as you say there could be improvements, but all in all this is very close to looking spot on. I am impressed - and would love to see your tie before anything official comes out. Great job - well done.

Thank you for the comments! The grille took some thought but I think it turned out as good as it could... except... where the grille meets the vent on each side will be updated. Instead of having a grey plates flush with the black plates, I'll have them protrude out just like the rest of the pieces. This will make it look more uniform around the half circle and will have a smooth tile top, no studs.

Very, very nice! Must be quite heavy? I guess the windscreen was always going to prove difficult, I think your solution works as well as you could acheive with limited options though. I very much like the grills and engine greeblies...Great work!

Looks fantastic.

Everything about this build seems so well considered. There's not 'too much' detail where it doesn't need to be and there's just enough studs showing which I always like.

I must admit I'm not always a fan of people putting their MOC on Ideas but I can see why you'd want to put this on there. I can see this getting a lot of votes!

Wow, this really is too good not to compliment you on. Wish there were a better soloution for the windshield, but it looks good anyway. My favorite part might just be the way you did the paint job. Very cool MOC.

The overall design is great, but the windshield bothers me. May I suggest using this part or this part placed horizontally?

Artizan - agreed on the windscreen. I went around on a different few ideas but ultimately when with this as it fit the studs available. It was my plan to use four clear 30649s with some adjustments to the screens themselves but I was afraid of too much "cut and glue". I may still go with this idea, but will order up two of the 6x6x9 and see how they look. Making them stick horizontally will be interesting Thank you for the input!

All - appreciate your feedback on this, thank you!

Great work! Looks very accurate and also built to Lego's UCS standard in my opinion

It also has just the right stud balance.

As for the windscreen, that might be not the most ideal way, but it looks suprisingly good!

I was thinking that maybe two of this piece placed horizontally mirrored could make a fantastic windscreen. Of course, if the length would fit the length of the Landspeeder.

Regardless, great job on this, Psyence!

JackJonespaw - good call on that piece as it was one of my "tries" while playing with LDD. Unless I "submerge" that windscreen into the body (a difficult task to make look good in trying - I'm not a tremendously experienced "MOC-er"), the angle on the side of the screen (imagine it on the bottom if used horizontally) makes a funny looking sweep back toward the cockpit of the speeder. Great minds think alike though right? :classic:

I will give Artizan's suggestion a try with the 6x6x9s (ordered two today) and we'll see how that works out.

Absolutely Spectacular! Great attention to the details of the paint job and mostly all of it accomplished with bricks alone. What you’ve done with the grille is quite nice. Don’t sell yourself short, you’re a great MOC-er and it shows with all the love you have put into this. Also, if it ever goes into production by LEGO I’m sure they could mold a windshield to put the finishing touch on this beauty! :wub_drool:

I am afraid the two "6x6x9s " may not work. I made some calculations, their total height is 57 plates which equals to approximately 28 studs, your creation seems to be 24 studs wide.

This looks fantastic, I saw this on Ideas the other day and I will support it now, if I can remember my username and password... :hmpf_bad:

WHOA! Fantastic build!

As others have said above, the 'paint job' and the grille really make this MOC pop. I can't recall seeing such a small SW vehicle created in such a large scale - looks great!! I would purchase this from LEGO. One aspect I like in particular is the two 4 length curved wedge slopes that connect to the 2x2 corner brick in each passenger area, it looks just like a supple leather dashboard. Bantha hide?

Thanks much for sharing!

Artizan - still awaiting new pieces but I did change the very front of the cockpit just a tad (where the three windshields meet the dark red ) for what I'd consider a better look. Once the other windshield options arrive I'll try variations and post for feedback. By the way, just supported your AOE concept - very nice (and followed).

Everyone, thank you for your comments and feedback - much appreciated!
