REVIEW: Elves Fire Dragon's Lava Cave (41175)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

this is my review of the new LEGO Elves set "Dragon's Lava Cave". (41175)

This is a cool little play set, and: We have another dragon, now.

Have a nice weekend

Andres

Great review! But technically Lego Elves discussion should go in the Action and Adventure Themes subforum, alongside themes like Ninjago and Nexo Knights.

I love the new dragon designs. How do the heads attach, incidentally? Would it be possible to take a picture of the back of the head piece so people who don't yet have any of the new sets could get a better idea of its connection points?

The cave is also great—amazing landscaping, and I love the moss-covered "beds"! And the Shadow Fountain serves as a great teaser of the darker direction the theme will be taking this summer.

Oh, thanks. :classic:

And: The head is attached by a ball joint, like the legs, as well.

Thanks for the review!

In absence of a historical theme and because I now have my sister's lego (she's gone into a dark age) which contains some elves stuff as an introduction for me I am now rather tempted by these sets...

Brilliant set! Dragon is pretty. Head have no so much articulation freedom, but it's enougt to pose him in nice-looking ways. It's good idea to hide leg joints so it gives solid form, he don't similar to a robot-like creatures from Ninjago and Bionicle and I like it!

Yesterday I bought Master Wu Dragon from ninjago to combine theese dragons, but both of them are so great so I can't take desicion to break them to build something new

Quite like this set, but why do Lego always has to put saddles on dragons?

So that people can ride them, obviously. The saddles are essential for these Elves dragons because mini-dolls can't just sit on regular studs the way minifigures can—they need a "seat" that includes the 1x2 part that their feet can grip onto.

In any case, considering these dragons' bodies are entirely brick-built, it would not be that difficult to mod the saddles away if you so desired.

That wouldn't be, if Keetorange and Dark Pink were not such rare colours. :sceptic:

Dark pink (actually Bright Reddish Violet, which I think is... Magenta on Bricklink?) probably wouldn't be needed, since that's mostly used for the dragon's underbelly. As for Keetorange, it's not really as rare as it used to be after being used heavily in Chima—and a lot of the parts it DOES appear in (curved slopes, plates, etc.) are exactly the kinds of parts you'd want to fill out a dragon's back. All it'd take is a Bricklink order, and probably not even a very expensive one.
