Brickfair VA 2015

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am excited about brickfair VA in a few days- who else is going? What are you displaying?

Any local restaurants that are good?

Cheers!

My twin brother and I will be there! In addition to our shared Atlantis submarine MOC which will make a repeat appearance from previous years, I'll be displaying my Bionicle 2015 mask display pedestals as well as my Nui-Rama revamp.

I'm kind of a picky eater so I'm not the best guy when it comes to recommending restaurants. But Bob O's, the restaurant at the hotel, is better than you might typically expect a hotel restaurant to be. Beyond that, there's plenty of fast food options that are good for catching a quick lunch between events during the convention—I tend to favor Chick-Fil-A and Pizza Hut, both within walking distance of the convention, and if I can get a ride there's also a Five Guys somewhat nearby. I'd definitely recommend that over the food available in the actual expo hall, which is mediocre and expensive (not to mention often has long lines when the crowds arrive for the public days).

Cool thanks for the heads up- I'm not picky either but I like to plan ahead, may try to bring a cooler to stuff some food in :)

We have not attended VA before- someone mentioned in a previous post that we should bring our own chairs- we didn't have to do that in Alabama so curious if it is actually the case- if so I'll have to strap them to the top of the car or buy some there.

Looking forward to it- my son and daughter and I will have some Star Wars scenes that we have been working on for a while.

He's currently working on his vignette swap thing- we are all really excited!

Cheers

I've never heard anything about bringing your own chairs. I can see how that might be preferable if you want a more comfortable seat than the typical plastic chair, but generally there's enough seats for everyone (or at least, for a few people to sit at each table—I doubt there'd ever be a situation where every attendee needs to sit down at once, apart from events like the opening and closing ceremonies which take place in the Bingo seats).

Sadly won't make it this year again but at least two of my works will be displayed there. Check out the Clone Army Customs booth where you'll find them.

I'll be there this year as well! Just put the finishing touches on my name badge yesterday (LDD pic because I didn't want to take photos  ).

You can see the MOCs I will be exhibiting here (scroll down to 2015). Most of them are Bionicle MOCs, but I'm also exhibiting a LEGO Atlantis submarine I built several years ago, my sculpture Delwyn Buckler which won the Best Small Creation award at BrickUniverse Raleigh this year, and my Blacktron Vivisector which won the Best Small Space Craft award at BrickFair Virginia 2014. I will also be exhibiting some of my 2D artwork at the Bionicle tables, like Gali - Master of Water.

Sorry for the double post, but I want to know if others are having the same problem as me.

I filled out a card at a stand that claimed to be running a raffle for some Lego store gift cards. However, a few days ago I was called by a "Travel Agent" who left a message in my inbox claiming that I had won a free cruise for filling out that card.

She mentioned Brickfair by name. A few hours later, another telemarketer called who mentioned a similar scenario and once again brought up Brickfair. They both gave out different numbers.

It seems that the Brickfair people sold my number to them. :hmpf_bad:

Anyone else having this problem?

Brickjagger,

Maybe you gave them the number when you filled out the card?

The stand was clearly a travel agent looking to generate a call list for vacation packages.

Wow, sorry to see that happened to you. I attend every year with my large displays, so I know this venue very well, and the owner of Brickfair never intends for any AFOL to get screwed over. He wants everyone to have a good time. He has now been informed and he won't repeat the mistake of letting someone like that in again. They turned out to be data miners, who should never be trusted ever. These are the type of slimeballs that sucker you in with "free" something but they require you to fill out your contact data. Then they sell your data to another slimeball company, telemarketers, etc. I've read articles that these jerks will sell your contact data for as little as 5 cents per household.

Any time anyone says something is free, they are lying, period. As the famous line goes, the only things that are free in life are death and taxes (paying, of course).
