MOSAIC : Andlau castle giant mosaic

Recommended Posts

For the Fana'briques 2013 exhibition, we have propose to the young (and not so young) public to build a giant mosaic representing the ruin of the Andlau castle with the Spesbourg castle in the background which are located into the Vosges Mountains in France.

The mosaic correspond to 512 times 256 studs square built using 512 16x16 studs square baseplates and something like 50000 bricks.

The baseplates are fixed on the magnetic stand using magnets glued onto the back of the baseplate. This was particularly appreciated by the young builders who had the possibility to add themself the baseplate they have build.

The stand in made with 4 panels (2.06 meters high and 1.03 meters wide) making an angle of 22.5 degrees between two successive panels giving more relief to the mosaic.

Finally, the mosaic includes two kind of resolutions : a low resolution using 2x2 bricks for the forest and a high resolution using 1x1 bricks for the two castles.

Some more pictures and high resolution ones into this album.

Enjoy.

Absolutely stunning! How long did it take to create this?

A few hours using Bricksaic, MLCAD and LPub for the picture, two days for building the magnetic stand, a day for preparing the baseplates and the bricks, and, finaly, 8 hours during the exhibition for building it.
