MOC: Blue Shores (Modular Building)

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'd like to present the Blue Shores, which was the one of two completely new buildings in The Promenade layout. While the layout overall was inspired by New York architecture, I named this one Blue Shores as the colours remind me of the seaside.

There is no interior for this one either I'm afraid. It will probably stay that way, although I'll keep it build for a while in case some inspiration (and time!) comes my way. I think it should be a lolly or ice cream shop, but haven't thought much beyond that.

There are a few more closeups on Flickr.

C&C welcome!

Pleasant beautiful work. Wish: you can try to make a 3 floor exactly the same as the second, without arches?

Another neat build with perfect proprtions. I really like that wherever you'd see a building like this, you know immediately that it is coming from you. :)

Delightful exterior 'Kristel' , only an interior is required (a hardware store would work or a drapery store).

Brick On !

Thanks! The middle and top floors are interchangeable, so you could easily replace the top floor with one that doesn't have the arches.

Thanks peedeejay!

Very cute!

For some reason it looks like a hat shop or similar to me.

Thanks! A hat shop is a good idea, and one that hasn't been done much that I can recall.

Thanks LT! I think that you could turn anything into a hardware store!

This is lovely! My first thought was: Ugh, sand blue. That's gorgeous, but totally unaffordable. Then I looked at what I'd actually need (especially if I didn't care about the stripes on the sides), and it is actually quite affordable. You got a lot of color out of not very many bricks! Are you selling directions? :)

Thanks! I'm working on the instructions and they should be ready for the weekend.

Nice build. I'd always use sandblue bricks in modulars, looks really good.

Thanks!

Another neat building, Kristel! My favourite is the colour scheme. It's almost neutral, but with some colour. This way it nicely shows the facade details. I also prefer the arches in the third floor as they round of the building nicely.

I love all your New York inspired buildings, currently building the "Cast Iron" building now.

I'll be in that line to purchase BI from your BL store.

Beautiful designs, I'll figure out some kind of interior to match this great outside.

The master of the 16 wide is back again!

Another great addition to the Modular world. Sand blue is my favorite LEGO color, so this fits right in. I like how you use the prominent color in the front and then round out the sides/back with another color. Something in my head doesn't allow me to do that, but it is easily the right thing to do for a layout since you can't see the sides/back as often. This should reaffirm the belief that I can use other consistent colors on the side/back without affecting the overall feel of the building.

Interiors are lovely, but not always necessary. I understand having more bricks/time to devote towards just the layout itself.

Part of me just wanted to build front facades, maybe 4 studs deep and call it good. But then I like the depth of the full building....who knows what time will tell. (I also am in need of time/money/inspiration...)

Keep up the good work.

I usually think the 16 wide MOCs look more like shoeboxes. But, this one is great. The lines are so clean. The simplicity of it is so appealing. Lose the light post and you have perfection. Nice work.

Elegant and nicely balanced facade. Sand blue and dark blue are my favorite lego colors and you've used them quite effectively.

Thanks! Would love to see what you come up with for the interior.

Thanks LegoDr! I often think about just doing front facades as a way to make the bricks go further.

I was tempted to leave out the lamppost in this one, but I couldn't do it. Just one of those things for me I guess.

"I was tempted to leave out the lamppost in this one, but I couldn't do it. Just one of those things for me I guess."

Understood. I have a MOC street of nine MOC residential type buildings. Going outside that traditional template and losing some lampposts, connecting pins and other aspects normally associated with modulars was a tough hurdle to get over. Anyway, very nice work on this one.

Looks good, I like the colors.

Thanks!

Beautiful as always :classic:

I like the colours. Looks like it could be standing right next to a beach promenade ready to be rented by some handicrafts business or an ice cream parlour.

Thanks! I had envisaged it as an ice cream store, but a handicrafts business is also a great idea.

Hehehe... My thoughts exactly. But if ain't a hardware store, it ain't LT

I do not know if these kind of shops pop up in other countries... I guess they do, though. A kind of gift shops selling maybe a bit of flowers, tea, chocolates, decorations and other small things. All set in an romantic, "old-fashioned" interior. I think that could work in a building like this, Kristel. I was also thinking an old book store, but I am not sure about the white facade then.

Otherwise, it is a very nice building, elegant in both architecture as well as colour scheme. And I somehow like the original LDD-version with the narrow windows on the ground floor. Guess it could work as an office building.

We do have those here too, and it would suit this building perfectly!
