Upgrading Modifying current pirate 2015 buildings

Recommended Posts

Hi

So I am new to legos I suppose. Over this weekend I bought the Brick Bounty, because I always wanted a lego pirate ship since the original came out when I was a freshman in high school. I really like the Brick Bounty. I understand some are denouncing it but it seems really nice. Of all the vintange sets I have seen, I think perhaps only the Skull's Eye Schooner looks better.

Anyway, I want the Treasure island and the Imperial For and outpost. HOWEVER, I must say both these sets look lackljuster compared to some of their predecessors. So now my idea is bite the bullet, get these sets and--particularly in relation to the Imperial sets--use them as a base to modify and improve. In relation to the fort and outpost in particular, I want to create something along the lines of the old EL Dorado fortress.

Any tips for a newbie. Dont' think it can be that hard.

Also, I intend to buy two sets of the shipwreck defenswe to get the two cannons needed to complete the Brick Bounty.

You'll probably need to either buy another copy of the fort and/or outpost, or else bricklink some additional white bricks if you don't have extras. There's really not a lot of structure to the buildings and I find myself wanting to do a similar upgrade. Unfortunately i'm finding I don't have quite enough white to do the job I want to do.

Also my primary focus is to upgrade the Bounty first to have a main deck above the gun deck, a longer body, and possibly a bigger, fancier captain's quarters.

Welcome to Eurobricks.

If you can find the parts you need on the Pick A Brick wall at the local LEGO Store, then that would be the least expensive way to get new parts in decent amounts.

I started an MOC thread to modernize the old Bluecoats 6265 - Sabre Island using 70410 - Soldiers Outpost as a base:

It's nowhere near 6276 - Eldorado Fortress, but it might help to give you a few ideas.

Eldorado Fortress was fantastic.

It will indeed take a lot of bricks to do an upgrade of it based on the new sets and bricks. But it is an interesting idea!

Hey guys

I am thinking of playing with the lego softwatre to get an idea of what I want to do.

Do we all agree that thjese five sets will be all we get, with perhaps an imperial set to finish up?

The Brick Bounty is a great offering (only problem only three cannons). The land sets kinda suck though.

I was lucky enough to be the right age for the original Pirates sets, and got the El Dorado Fortress for Christmas one year, and the Trading Post the next. In fact, the Trading Post was probably the last LEGO set I got before I entered my Dark Age, and I recall my parents questioning if I really wanted it, given that I'd likely be done with getting toys for Christmas at that age...

As for the youtube video of the El Dorado MOC, I find it to be too scare and complete. One thing I recall about building the El Dorado as a kid was how it had angles I wasn't used to, and while I wished it had symmetrical doors on the upper tower, it was interesting to have the single half door instead. It made me consider more out-of-the-box build ideas, rather than trying to create perfection in my own builds.

One of the things I've wanted to do since I got out of my Dark Age for good is build a MOC based on the El Dorado Fortress, and also the Bandit Hideout from the first Western theme. That Hideout set nearly got me out of the Dark Age much earlier than I eventually did.

I actually have been working on exactly this within the past few weeks, in fact, I am pretty much finished. I have all the original Pirate/Imperial sets and every set made since then for Pirates and Imperials, except the islander sets. So I had/have a ton of inspiration and bricks to work with. I bought 4 of the latest 2015 Soldiers forts, and 10 of the 2015 soldier outposts, and a few off the other sets as well as 1 Brick bounty. Anyway, I have combined all the latest Bluecoat sets, plus a few imperial sets from the 2009 line, into a GIANT Bluecoat coastal battery, forts, outposts, and trading center. I mostly modded the many sets, in some cases combining 2 or 3 into 1 big Fort/outpost, and continuing from there.

I really want to get some pictures up of the finished MOC, and I know it will give you some great ideas/inspiration, but I've never posted or uploaded pictures before. Sadly, I do not have flickr, or anything like that, and I admit that I simply just don't know what to do. I have a friend that I can ask, and should be seeing soon. I promise that if I figure how to get pics up, I will.

Sounds really great, looking forwards to the images.

I am looking forward to your MOC, too. I am planning myself to make a new "Port Royal" MOC as I made in the past. But I must make my new comic finish and I will become a dad in a mounth, therefore I have not so much time :).
