HMS Defiant, 12 guns-brig

Recommended Posts

Well, even if isn't 100% complete; I decided to present my flagship today and now.

My stock limitation was a permanent problem, but I think that I solved it with my humble methods...

First of all, a few pics without crew, to see the details...

The bow, notice the owl as figurehead and the bell:

Now onboard, the capstan; functional but really fragile...

The gun deck, clear and ready for action, with it's 8 guns:

The quarterdeck, with the helm, 4 carronades and a small place for the commander to examine maps etc...

The masts, the weakness of all my ships, not so pretty as the rest of the ship (probably when I put the sails will be better):

Returning to the bow, the anchor, one of my favourite parts, because it's totally improvised:

And now, the ship with the crew:

The Commodore (myself), examining the map...

At the stern, the row boat:

"DING-DING, DING-DING, DING!!"

_Sail ho!

_Full broadside...!

_...FIRE!

For finish; the HMS Defiant sailing with my other ship (builded just yesterday and finished today), a bombardment ketch provisionally named as HMS Thunderer:

That it's all, I hope you liked it.

(The HMS Thunderer will be presented soon, but I will wait some days because I usually moddify my ships a bit every day a few days after it's construction (or a few weeks, in the case of the HMS Defiant...).

Comments and critics are welcome.

Greetings from Spain,

Commodore Ariel Brickson.

You've got a nice little ship there! Obviously a lack of parts is always a major issue when it comes to design, but you've improvised quite nicely. Good colour scheme, and well done on the cannons.

Nicely done, I like that anchor very much, it fits very well for a ship this size.

The booms are a bit... rought but I suppose you were limited by parts.

It's coming along nicely! All the brick-made details are very cool! It ceratinly looks like a small English brig. By the way, rear mast there is a big gaff sail and you might consider having a tiller instead of a wheel, it looks kind of big (but that's just my opinion). Other than that, it looks very historically accurate. All in all, great job so far!

Thanks for comments.

@ManInATopHat:

fortunately, I have enought yellow bricks to make this colour scheme and repeat it in two different ships (and I think that I have enought for a third one if I make something really small like a sloop), but unfortunately, I don't have enought black bricks and bases...

@Sebeus I:

I also think that the anchor it's perfect for this ship, but by the moment I can only make one, at least in this colours...

About the shots; it's true that I don't have parts to make it in Lego, but anyway, I prefer to make them in cotton, it's more realistic; even if this is the first time that I use this trick in Lego (I used it before in Playmobil and Tente (another build toy native from Spain) so many times that I adquired some experience in using it, and it's also a distinctive part of my works... with other special trick).

@Captain Golden Hook:

I considered to put a gaff sail in the main mast, (in fact, in the first moments, there was one, but was too fragile and I had to make the mast higher); but with the actual mast I don't know how to make it; there is no place were I can put the sprit... but I'm still working on it...

In fact I considered to put a tiller in a first moment, but it will make more difficult to put the row boat...

Friendly from Spain,

Commodore Ariel Brickson.
