74louloute Posted March 16, 2009 (edited) A few days ago, I saw a picure of naked women pixelized. They had the Lego Logo and a slogan : For adults. It seems to be an artist work. I'm not sure about the naked chick, but as for the fake adverts, I think they are a brilliant commentary that juxtaposes what young kids should be doing (playing with LEGO) against what they are doing instead (watching thousands of acts of sex and violence on TV). I could be wrong about the artists intent -there may be an additional layer of ironic intent that I'm missing- but it seemed pretty clear to me. Freddie Posted March 16, 2009 I fully agree with what Eilif said - except perhaps about the bit that kids should be playing with LEGO instead of watching TV, since it focuses on the negatives on the alternative to LEGO and not on the positives about LEGO. For us, the message gets through, but perhaps not for (absent-minded) parents. It made it more easily for me to evaluate their quality. The pics you posted, Bricks, are a different matter for sure. But I think the size is for many users a bit to high->And the size contravene against the rules.... ... Images: Don't post images that are over 800x600 or are LEGO confidential. ---- The pics you posted, Bricks, are a different matter for sure. The artist is using a non-humorous statement "rebuild it", and pictures of serious non-staged subject matter. Taken in that context, I don't find anything offensive in those pictures. Rather, I find them to be quite hopeful. There may have been some innapropriate comments, but we are capable of intelligent discourse, and I hope we can continue discussing without calling for closure of an interesting thread. Quite clever actually. Who was being disrespectful? There was only one comment where a member said that he finds those artworks funny, but I think he simply stated that this is his type of humor and didn't mean anything disrespectful. Destroyed things can be rebuild, yes, but the real tragedy in these pics is the loss of all those people´s lives. All that personal (and universal) horror... And of course these lives can never be replaced, especially not with some MFs... (I know you´re of course not saying so, Eilif). The LEGO connection here works strong in the provocation department, but the relevance´s limping. 'Rebuild it', perhaps in another context... maybe. Provoking thoughts throughout art is not a bad thing, and cynicism can lead to some interesting results too. I have no idea what exactly the intentions of that person who made the second set of pics in this topic are. Perhaps... to rebuild something somewhat must be build at first... everything´s a result of something, somehow... could a different foreign policy help to prevent terroristic attacks? A better intelligence? Could the harm caused by floods and storms be mellowed if politicians would decide to spend more money on precautionary measures? Are our living conditions contributing to the (assumed) increasing of ecological calamities? So many theoretical possibilities... however, I think there´s a distinct shadow of doubt clouding the honesty of that second person´s intentions... But it´s hard to judge without knowing more.
