nerdsforprez Posted November 18, 2014 Many apologies if this has already been posted. I did a search and I got an near infinite amount of responses, yet none with my topic of interest. There are many sites used to share LEGO creations. I am not just talking about forums, because we already kow which the best one of those are :) But actual sites that one can share his/her models. Here are few off the top of my head: mocpages, brickshelf, rebrickable, flickr, and a new one, bricksafe. What are the pros and cons of each? I have a mocpages account, and think that it is the best. I can belong to groups, rate and comment on others' work, and do much more. Brickshelf doesn't really have any of these properties, yet I know that it has a long and storied history, and it seems like more people have a brickshelf rather than mocpages account. Flickr is for pretty much anything... so I think this is an entirely different beast altogether. And.... the new bricksafe doesn't seem user-friendly at all. Everything is random, not really much in terms of being able to search or comment or anything but I see that many are turning to this. Thoughts? Comments? I see that many who are much more invovled and experienced than myself don't use mocpages..... just wondering why. BTW... seeing that another conversation just got removed from the Technic forum b/c it was too general.... I will just say this. I, too am really only interested in the opinions or thoughts of those that primarily build with Technic. I think the different themes have their own preference in terms of sites they use to share their stuff. That being said, if this still needs to be removed and placed elsewhere.....I completely understand.
Blakbird Posted November 18, 2014 I think the different sites have different purposes. If you actually want to present your MOC, then mocpages is a good place to do it because of the reasons you listed. Of those you listed, I currently only actively use Bricksafe. This is because I just want a place to store images and easily organize and resize them, and it is perfect for that. The main advantage of rebrickable is that you can actually include a complete parts list (and that site is created by the same guy as Bricksafe). Brickshelf is also really just an image hosting site, but has some greater ability to browse randomly compared to Bricksafe. Both are LEGO only. I'm not into Flickr but it seems to be the most popular of all. Getting it all set up is too high a barrier to entry for me.
Tommy Styrvoky Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) I find that Youtube and Flickr are my most active (feedback, likes, followers) Mocpages is somewhat active, though it receives feedback only for the first day or so. I think the site used to be more active, though people may just be getting lazier and not replying or liking stuff. I wish that the site was updated, there is a lot of things that could be done for improvement. (using a similar system to add photos to groups like on Flickr.) I find Rebrickable is useful for determining if you have enough of a part when building something. It is a little bit of a hastle to remember what sets you own but it pays off to know quantities of parts. I do like with the site how you can see what parts are required to build models and what percent of the parts you have. Mikuri Posted November 19, 2014 I myself use lots of sites but mainly rebrickable. Mocpages is outdated for me. Flikr is too general but makes a great images hosting.
Lucio Switch Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Started with Mocpages, good advantages that you have said (comment, group...) and a good layout for your Mocs, but it's true that is not so active (well, I have just answered to a question on my Tractor Truck, but this doesn't happen often), in addition, you can post only low quality pics (800x600 if I'm not mistaken), for that I have a Flickr Account, not a Lego community, but works good for the pics, before the Flickr, I done a Youtube account...Well, there's nothing to say in this regard.... I have recently started using rebrickable, I find it really good for the parts list and to manage your inventory (do the first inventory is another painfull story ), really useful if you want to share the instructions. I share my Mocs in all this platforms for different porpouse. Unfortunately I'm not able to access from work to Brickshelf or Bricksafe for server locking...so I didn't use them. For give you an idea of visualization I compare the data of my Tractor Truck (about two month old): Mocpages: 2258 visitor 46 "I like" 30 comments (my included) Flickr: from 750 to 1050 visualizations from 0 to 6 "like" 6 comments in total (values change because it's on individual photos) Youtube: 36940 views 198 "like" 5 "not like" 35 comments (my included) Rebrickable: not reached (well' I've not yet released anything) EB: 7129 views 94 comments (regarding the thread) To you the conclusions...There is to consider that Mocpages and EB visitors, probably, are only AFOLs, on Flickr and Youtube...probably not!!
