Recommended Posts

The LUGBULK program is back again, see below for details :sweet:!

Dear LUG Members,

The LEGO LUGBULK Program was a big success last year so we have decided to continue the program – still as a pilot which can be terminated anytime - in 2010 but with some adjustments and even more defined rules based on our experience from last year.

We are happy to announce, that we in 2010 can offer the LEGO LUGBULK Program also in the USA.

I assume the minimum order per US LUG works out to about $1,000 USD, right? Or the going rate of $970?

Well, I guess you refere to this:
The minimum order per LUG and round is 5000 DKK

That should about right taking the exchange rate from for example www.xe.com.

I intentionally ignored the previous LUGBulk program so I wouldn't get jealous, so forgive my ignorance...

What were element prices like for last year's program? This image is just so tantalizing!

This is long...sorry. The file was in .docx which is a current word format and by current I mean many users won't have a new enough version.

Rules for LEGO LUGBULK Program 2010

Dear LUG Members,

The LEGO LUGBULK Program was a big success last year so we have decided to continue the program – still as a pilot which can be terminated anytime - in 2010 but with some adjustments and even more defined rules based on our experience from last year.

We are happy to announce, that we in 2010 can offer the LEGO LUGBULK Program also in the USA.

Please find in the following the Rules for the LUGBULK Program 2010 – please be aware of that we due to workload need to follow these rules and need all information and responses from you in time and in the provided forms- otherwise we are unable to proceed your order.

The first step is to send Jan Beyer (jan@LEGO.com ) an email with information (see required information below in red) where you apply for the participation in the LEGO LUGBULK Program 2010.

This email need to be send before the 31st of January if you want to participate in the first order cycle 2010 and before May 16th if you want to participate in the second round of the order cycle. Also all participating LUGs from 2009 need to send the email in time!

If you have sent this email in time for the first round your LUG can automatically also participate in the second round.

What are the requirements for participation?

The LEGO LUGBULK Program is only accessible for registered LUGs. A LUG need to meet the following requirements to become a registered LUG:

  • The LUG need min. 10 members (please tell us the member figure of your LUG)
  • The LUG need to feature at least 2 public displays a year (always the events from the previous year count so please send dates and links to pictures of your public events from 2009)
  • The LUG need to exist for at least 1 year (please tell us the founding date)
  • The LUG need to have an official website (please send us the link)
  • The LUG need to have at least a 1 page description of the LUG and the goals on the website (please send us the link to that page)
  • The complete filled out LUGBULK Master Data Sheet.

The LUG is responsible for securing the needed written accept from their in the LEGO LUGBULK Program participating members to submit legally basic information about them to the LEGO Company like

Full Name of members, Address of members , Email of member s, Date of birth of members (members who want to order need to be 16+), LEGO ID or LEGO Customer number of members if applicable and others.

The later provided LUGBULK Member Data Form need to be used to submit all member data.

Only the personal data of the members who accept the terms can be submitted and only these members can order.

The data will be used only by LEGO System A/S and its affiliated entities and never issued to 3rd parties.

What are the rules for the LEGO LUBGULK Program?

- Only active elements (no Q elements and no licensed elements) can be purchased

- The minimum order per LUG and round is 5000 DKK

- The average amount per member to purchase is max. 500 DKK

- The minimum order qty. per element is 50 pcs. and increase in 50 pcs. steps (except building plates (can be ordered by piece) – there are no other exceptions!)

- The maximum amount of different elements per order is 50

- Every registered LUG can order up to 2 times a year if they react in the timetable (see dates above)

- The orders will be taken in between February and September each year – the order dates and other submission dates will be agreed with Jan Beyer in the order of the arrival of the applications.

- Payment terms are 15 days after Invoice Date by bank transfer and in DKK/EUR/USD without any costs for the LEGO Group

- The lead time per order is up to 3 month

- It is not allowed to resell the bought elements – there will be a penalty for the LUG if a member is reselling the elements.

- The shipping costs and possible taxes/custom clearings are not included – shipping will always happen through DHL and the goods cannot be picked up in Billund.

- Costs for shipping are 5% of the order amount

- Only one defined member of each LUG can place the order and will get the order shipped

- AFOLs can only order in one LUG and not order in several LUGs even if they are member of more than one LUG.

- The order need to be submitted in the LEGO LUGBULK Order Form which will be send out later to the registered LUGs.

How is the process?

1. The LUG submit the email with the info regarding the requirements and the complete filled in LEGO LUGBULK Master Data Sheet to Jan Beyer (jan@LEGO.com) before the 31st of January (first round) or 16th of May (second round).

2. After that the for ordering defined contact persons of the registered LUGs (LUGs that fulfill the requirements) will receive a mail from Jan Beyer with the LEGO LUGBULK Order Form and the LEGO LUGBULK Member Data Form so they can submit the needed Member information and the wish list according to the in that mail set date. The contact person is responsible for the order and payment in the timeframe for this specific LUG

3. After Jan Beyer has received the wish list (max. 80 elements) in time it will be proceeded and send back to the LUG contact person with prices and information (if elements cannot be delivered and so on).

4. The contact person must then get the final order list down to the allowed 50 elements and adjust the order amount so it fit to the max order amount of the LUG (member figure multiplied by registered members – min. 5000 DKK) and send it back to Jan Beyer in time.

5. Jan Beyer proceeds the order to the warehouse and get a final status of the order. First after final status from the warehouse the order is done and agreed and the 3 month lead time start.

6. When the order is ready it gets shipped with DHL to the shipping address according to the LEGO LUGBULK Master Data Sheet

7. Jan Beyer is sending the invoice separate to the billing address according to the LEGO LUGBULK Master Data Sheet.

The whole process can happen up to twice a year.

Please notice that if you not are in time with your order or any other needed information according to the dates agreed by email with you, your order cannot be fulfilled and will be canceled.

What is a "Q" element? (its mentioned in the rules file)
The question was up also in our Ambassador forum, and another Ambassador, Christian, made this good summary:

Q elements are elements that are restricted in the usage. Usually that means only model builders in Legoland parks and designers within the LEGO company can use them. Example parts are for example brown 12v train tracks, 2 x 4 building bricks in dark nougat or trans clear round 2 x 2 tiles.

Another type of Q listed parts are new parts that will be out in the future, usually even the Legoland parks don't have access to those.

Great news. Now all our local LUG needs to do is keep expanding so that hopefully next year we could enroll.

I have a few questions though:

- how do we "prove" the exact date when the LUG was founded in case it has not officially been registered; and

- as far as "websites" are concerned, does an online forum under a www.---.org address in the respective local language count?

Wait.. so it´s basically a (cheap?) way to get the bricks needed for a MOC which are going to exhibitions? If so, how do we order? Can we do it through Eurobricks? How do we know the prices, and how do we get the pieces (mail says that they are delivered to 1 member)? I´m confused...

Hi everybody.

I would like to ask the people who participated in the previous round of the LUGBULK Program.

My Czech LUG (Kostky.org) wants to participate in the next round and we are interested in your experience.

What type of elements - in general - were approved by TLG?

Any typical examples of rejected elements?

What was the typical price for, say, a brick 1 x 2 or a plate 1 x 2?

Does the price depend on colour (rarity) of the brick?

Any other recommendation?

Thanks

Jonas

Hi,

What type of elements - in general - were approved by TLG?

See the rules: "Only active elements (no Q elements and no licensed elements) can be purchased"

Any typical examples of rejected elements?

See above, anything other than those will be rejected.

What was the typical price for, say, a brick 1 x 2 or a plate 1 x 2?

Here are some examples for you:

- dark bluish grey 1x1 tiles (3070b) 0.08 DKK each

- tan 1x1 tiles (3070b) 0.16 DKK each

- white window 1x2x2 (60592) 0.24 DKK each

- trans clear glass 1x2x2 (60601) 0.16 DKK each

- light bluish grey curved slope 2x4x2/3 (61068) 0.40 DKK each

Does the price depend on colour (rarity) of the brick?

Yes, see above.

Any other recommendation?

Make sure you read all the rules, other than Q element thing (which has been explained in this topic), everything is clear. Prices may change so they don't give out any information about it. Check the requirements throughly, if your LUG meet them all then have fun playing!

Thanks, Cagri, for your fast response.

Be sure, that I have read the rules carefully before posting my questions.

What I was asking for was real experience from the previous round. When asking about the approved/rejected items I wanted to know if also the amounts or colours or element types (of course only those in production) had played a role in the approval at the TLG side. You know, if you have a limited (initial) selection of 80 lots, minimizing the risk of many rejected parts is important.

Your answer about the sample prices is very useful, definitely.

Thanks

Jonas

We, as the TurkLUG, haven't had the chance to order yet so my knowledge is limited. Other ambassadors may help you more. Send them an email, I'm sure all of them will gladly help you. Not every ambassador checks here, so you may not get an answer soon :) Here are some more examples of prices, I quote my fellow ambassadors:

99 pce. Black Slope 65 2 x 1 x 2 (60481): 99 x 0.4 DKK = 39.6 DKK *

92 pce. Yellow Slope 30 1 x 2 x 2/3 (85984): 92 x 0.6 DKK = 55.2 DKK *

99 pce. Black Slope 30 1 x 2 x 2/3 (85984): 99 x 0.5 DKK = 49.5 DKK *

493 pce. Black Technic, Link Chain (3711): 493 x 0.2 DKK = 98.6 DKK *

371028 Plate 1x4 Dark Green 0.16DKK 0.021EUR

4211511 Brick 1x1 w/4 Knobs Medium Stone Grey 0.64DKK 0.086EUR

4247771 Brick w/Bow 1/3 Bright Yellow 0.32DKK 0.043EUR

4514845 Plate 1x12 Black 0.48DKK 0.065EUR

4550123 Dino Cub. Drum Laqu Warm Gold, Drum Lacq 1.6DKK 0.215EUR

* Appearently, some parts were not available by multiplies of 50 so they had to send 99/92/93 etc ...

Well, I did participate in the last round, and most likely the very first speed-bump you're going to hit are the prices. That is somewhat remedied now, with the higher cost-limits, but it certainly was the first thing I and my fellow members at Brikkelauget had to adjust to before we could re-submit our order. I think that's how it went, anyways.

And as for rejected items - well, you sort of have to find the limits yourself. I imagine one does it like last year - submit the order, if it needs to be modified to be accepted, you'll be notified and given a new, short, deadline for resubmitting it with modifications. And let me tell you, piece and color combinations are not as limited as they might appear - I myself managed to get hold of 50x trans-clear 1x2 tiles, parts which are not common in any way and, from the top of my head, available in only one set, and one that is extremely limited in circulation as well.

If I were to recommend what parts to get, I would recommend ordering pieces you need in quantities that also are relatively rare, such as dark green 1xX bricks, dark tan plates and bricks and whatnot. Even if the rules limit what pieces you can get, keep in mind that there are far more piece/color combinations in ordinary production that you might think, and as such the selection is varied, to make an understatement.

BURPS are expensive though, somewhere between 5 and 6 DKK per piece if I remember it right.
