Wyndor's Saga:

See what happened prior to this: The Laughing Dwarf

16092241755_c1f5ec17c5_b.jpg

At one of the passes through the mountains that stretch along the border of Avalonia and Mitgardia, a small band of elvish guards had been alerted by their spies to the fact that reneged dwarves would be trying to enter their green land to wage war and wreck mayhem. These elves were not used to the cold weather that came down from Mitgardia and filled the pass with snow. They often spent the day huddled together waiting for the evening when the next shift would take over for them and they could continue their huddling by a fire. That day had they had seen very little activity on the road. Finally a wagon made it’s way up the trail and past the guards.

“Ho there!” shouted one of the elf guards. “What are you bringing into Avalonia?”

The oversized man pulled back on the reigns and brought his team of horses to a halt.

“Not’in here but beautifool trees from Valholl” the man said through his beard.

The elves looked the cart over and under before letting the oversized man pass.

“Alright, you may continue you on your journey” they said. “And may we say, these are some most magnificent trees you are transporting. It’s nice to meet someone else with good taste.”

The oversized man picked up the reigns and prepared to continue.

“By the way” the elf guard asked, stopping the oversized man before he could go. “Did you see anyone else behind you on your way up the pass?”

“Uh… no, I was the only trooveler I could see” he answered. “Noo one was behind me.”

“Alright boys,” the elf guard turned to say, “Let’s turn in early to the fire. If there was no one behind this gentleman then it will be at least an hour before a traveler would pass by.”

The elves turned to head towards the camp and left the pass. The oversized man waited till the elves were far out of sight and then took off his overcoat.

“A brilliant plan Rothgar!” said the upper half of the man.

Three other dwarves popped their heads out of the logs and one of the asked, “Are we there yet?”

16092230605_639ac71013_c.jpg

“Almost,” answered Rothgar. “We’ve made it past the hardest part. Now we just need to get to the cliff so we can fire on the Drow in time!”

OoC: Hopefully you'll caught that the oversized man was really two dwarves standing one on the other's shoulders. But just in case, I'll mention that here  And yes, that is a Brian Regan reference in the title.

Great concept, I really like the large logs too! I'm not quite sure what the golden posts are though... do they mark the border?

Awesome idea. Love the idea of two dwarves inside one Hagrid. Very good use of that fig.

I agree and I like this MOC - but I have a question: shouldn't the snow be on top of the grey rock pieces?

(I suppose some snow has melted away)

Great idea! I like that you included wagon ruts and I also liked the snot snow on the side. The tree design is also very good :)

Great idea! Loved the "oversized man" mentions, and the Regan-reference title. I witnessed such logging truck oddities a couple times myself over the years.

Very cool wagon, and I thought the 'giant' was just two dwarves, clever

Neat way to transport troops undercover as well :classic:

Great build and great story :) the over size man really ring two dwarves was nicely done :)

Thanks!

They are supposed to be markers yes. I was envisioning the scene in Batman Begins when he is climbing through the mountains and walks past some thin banners fluttering in the wind. I hope that helps make more sense.

Hehe - very original concept! The ruts in the road is a great touch too.

I'm glad you like the ruts! I wish I could accomplish the same effect with a piece longer than a 1x1 cheese slope, but oh well!

Very nice indeed!

Thanks Jakorin!

The idea with the snow is that the sun has come up enough to melt the snow off the tops of the rocks, but hasn't been high enough in the sky long enough to melt the snow in the shadows.

These dwarves are quite cunning! Love the idea, just as hiding the dwarves in the logs.

Thank you Jorrith!

Great idea! I like that you included wagon ruts and I also liked the snot snow on the side. The tree design is also very good :)

I'm glad you like it all!

I'm afraid I've never watched Batman  ...but I think I see what you're talking about.

Great idea, nice build, perfect story you have here, MKJ!

I also like the ruts and the snow down in the pass. The spikes to mark the border look great to me, though I like the reference picture even better! I guessed that the dwarves would be hiding inside the logs as I read through the story, but I did not expect the two-dwarf man was part of the trickery! Excellent idea!

A great and cleverly done build Josh! Between the rutted road, those nice-looking cut trees and the snotted landscape, it's obvious you put a lot of thought into this awesome built. Great entry!

Maybe it's because you are confusing my builds with SKs  We do seem to have a similar style, though I'm not up to his standards yet!

Sweet way to smuggle dwarves! Nice snot work on the snow as well!

I'm glad you like the snow!

Well, I always try to put a lot of thought into my builds, but I'm glad it especially seemed to work with this build. Thanks ME!
