Query about VIP points in store?

Recommended Posts

I recall that when I joined the VIP Programme initially I did so at a LEGO Brand store. I had a little plastic credit card sized card given to me.

I had real problems setting my account up on line and in the end the LEGO Helpline had to get involved and they had problems as well so passed it over to the VIP people. In the end they gave up as there was some error and i had to set up a new account and they transferred my points across.

All has been well and i have been accumulating points. Now next week I am going to a LEGO Brand store again for the first time in a couple of years. I have quite a few points built up from online purchases over the last year or so.

Will i be able to redeem these in store as I never had a card sent to me for the new account and obviously the card I initially was given at the store is no longer active as they had to ditch that account and set up a new one.

What i am asking is there anyway to log onto your account in the LEGO store to redeem these points or if you do not have a card is it just too bad and you can only use them online?

This question relates to stores in the UK by the way. So anyone know the answer to this question?

Thank you.

When I go to The LEGO store, I never have my card. They just look it up by my Email address and everything works fine. I am in the USA so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Just guessing here, but your VIP account should be tacked on to your name in the system. Since you've been buying and getting VIP points online or by phone, you obviously haven't showed anyone your card, so I imagine you should be good. Don't quote me though.

All they need is your name to look up your vip account and redeem points.

I never use the VIP points offline. I'm an hour away from any lego store (like 3 :/). The gas makes it not worth it.

VIP points suck in general. I've stopped buying from Lego.com. The savings are superior at Amazon (just have to be patient to wait for the like 20%+ off deals) AND I get free two-day shipping. Makes VIP points mostly irrelevant except for the times the Lego store has the cheaper price. That only happens with the more oddball items (plates), rarer items or sometimes for specific in-demand items during the holidays (when suddenly the Amazon prices skyrocket or they're out of stock).

Mathematically, with some patience, VIP points factually suck for 95% of Lego items.

For the people who only buy from LEGO directly (because of various reasons), I love VIP points. Yes, it isn't a huge savings like potential sales at stores or Amazon, but it is still a nice treat, especially for the big exclusives or double points month or when they have a polybag figure that isn't available anywhere else. I think long run, Amazon or somewhere will be cheaper, but the VIP is still a nice program.

But back to the topic, as far as I know, they just need your name or email or phone number to look up your account. I didn't have my card (I can't find it) and I received all of my points no problem at my last visit. It's under my dad's name, but my phone number and they still let me use it without him present.

But I did hear they have a 2 year expiration?? I don't know if that is true or not.

I was in a Dallas area LEGO store just before Christmas and they told me they were changing the policy to a 2 year expiration.

Thanks for the answers. I did hear that there was a two year expiry date myself hen I set the account up, But I have used some already and the ones there are only from January 2012 onwards so that is not an issue.
