I wasn't working today so I tried making a micro model of the death star.

This is the first micro model I've built so I think it looks pretty good.

Very nice! It's a shame you don't have the internal parts in dk. grey.

How on earth did you fit in all those cylindrical cones? I would make them all grey if you could, It would look much better then the black.

I agree with the crowd, beams a bit big, but you captured the idea well.

I think those aren't cylindrical cones, those are 2 x 2 black discs bunched together to form a sphere. The question is, how did you make them to form the sphere, brickfoot?

I knew that, I just didn't really know how to describe it properly

I'll give you a clue you need a Black Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides.

Yeah but I still can't figure out how the discs were angled to form a sphere.

It's hard to explain but all the black discs are not connected to anything they, are held in place by all the grey discs which are connected to the Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides.

Now I see, it just confirms my initial hunch that the black discs cannot be angled in such a small space through legal connections. Anyway, I'm still impressed on how you did that brickfoot.

I bet a Lego designer would love all my illegal connections.

You've got a Technic pin with stud stuck in the bottom, 1x1 studs on the other 5 sides, 6 2x2 parabolic plates on the resulting six sides, with the Technic pin pulled out a little bit to make the bottom-most parabola the same distance from the center as the other 5. Then the outer parabolas are held in by friction between their stud receptacles ad the edges of the inner parabolas.

Am I right?

EDIT: Is the stand stuck into the bottom-most parabola, or is there no parabola-and-Technic-pin assembly at all?

Your close.

I will give some instructions on how to make it below.

This is what the inside should look like

4843764163_4e626dcda9.jpg

Each black parabola is put under the grey parabolas like this

Then put 4 black parabolas around the top like this

4843768207_99f1812237.jpg

Then put the top grey parabola on like this

4843790607_fcff972dea.jpg

Then put the 4 black parabolas on the bottom like this

Then put the stand and laser on like this

And your done. Warning while putting together it may fall apart but once completed it is very sturdy.

Now that's really clever. And if it were all black, it would make an excellent underwater mine as well...

Nice work

I love this micro-Death Star. I've been trying to figure out how you did this since yesterday - now you told us I don't know if I'm pleased to know or disappointed that I couldn't work it out :cry_sad: I think the size of the super laser is fine. Will you be posting a final version when your Bricklink order arrives?
