The +4 juniors ship

Recommended Posts

So i got the juniors pirate ship on sale at target and i've resisted buying this because it's just kinda ugly.

When I got it home i sifted through the pieces and was a little disappointed. I pushed the hull peices together and was even more disappointed because i thought maybe these could be used somewhere else. But as someone else mentioned it kinda looks like a tug boat. Then I got a brillant if not entirely ethical idea. I called LEGO to report the center piece "missing" in the set they took my name and address and a week later I got the "missing" center piece when put it into the exsisting hull it doesn't look so bad. So for all those that hate it, try extending the hull a bit with a second or third center piece.

Disclaimer: It's not my intention to get everyone on these forums to call LEGO and report thier center piece missing. I thought long and hard about it because i wasn't sure if it was right but then i said forget it i've spent thousands of dollars on LEGO they can give me a free center piece.

You're a true pirate Jack Dagger! That's excellent thinking but this is a "don't try this at home kids" kinda thing so if any of you are inspired you didn't read this here!

I've always wondered what this ship would look like if it were a little longer, do you have any pictures of to share?

I would like to see what you have come up with :) I already posted my limited version MOC of it this week.

haven't actually gotten around to building anything with it yet. Just moved recently and the plastic bags i had all my LEGO in busted in the box so now i've got to sort out the 600+ lbs of LEGO. But when that's done i'll whip something up

Excellent! It would be good to see what you can come up with. Out of that 600+ lbs of LEGO how much of it is useful for ship building?

I'm not sure if i had to guess maybe 30-40%. I've been buying them off ebay and bricklink for too long, and have amassed 2 BSB, 2 renegade runner's, imp flagship, caribbean clipper, a few other ships, both pirate bases and just about all the smaller sets

my original plan was to just collect a crap ton of legos and then give them to my sons when i have them but now i just want to play with them myself

I know I might seem a bit impatient but when will you have something to show? I ask not because I'm unbemused, rather, I'm excited to see what a multi-middle hull Redbeard ship MOC looks like <- Was that a bit of a tongue twister?

Why lenghten this boat??

Exactly! don't you thinks it's already gargantuan piece of hull.

Bigger is not always better.

Its not the "bigger the better" philosophy I'm feeding off here! Do you really think that I'd adopt such a mentality? You should each have 20 lashes for even suggesting it!!!

Its not size that I think it needs to be bigger, its due to the fact its bulbous hull makes it look like a tug boat (that isn't my analogy but I think it fits it perfectly) and an additional middle hull piece or two would provide it with sufficient length to avoid this.

However, as demonstrated on The barque Dodelijk Klompschoen additional hull pieces are not required if the bow section is adequately built.

I don't think lengthening will help. Instead of being bulbous like a standard incandescent lamp it'll be boulbous as a fog lamp, or instead of a tugboat it'll be a long tug. It's more a matter of how you build the upper decks alone.

I wasnt suggesting that you were personally subscribing to the "bigger is better" policy, but in my experience many people do. just the other day my roommate told me to combine all my hulls and make a huge ship. I was not amused and showed him the +4 hull and he went away.

Most of the time, I personally think the larger a ship is, the more unsightly it is, regardless of hull type.

I am curious to see if SkaForHire can pull something off with his moster hull on this thread

I'll try to keep an open mind, but I'm not optimistic about it. :-/

good luck though ;-)

Egad! That is one whopper of a hull! But when I first saw it "sail barge" immediately sprung to mind.

Anyway Mr Ghoulrealm, how big can a ship be without becoming unsightly?

I wouldn't say they are always ugly nor that I would never build a large vessel.

But too often it seems like people concentrate more on making models large, and less on form and details.

I do prefer shorter ships more than long in general, not only for personal preference but because i can make more medium sized vessels and to have a larger fleet.

To precisely answer your question, I would typicaly not use more than 3 midsections and usually only one.

IT would cost me too much to build... but i think done right it could be pretty awesome... i think the next ship i build is going to be back to traditional hull, just because i miss it. but that won't be until i get more pieces... andthat costs money... and now that some woman is trying to rip me off on ebay, thats 70 dollars of pirate legos im not getting... (i payed thru paypal already, it went through and she wont send my legos! WTF??? she says its because i am an unconfirmed shipping address, i have always used that address and never had a problem... and she wont refund my money... )

Skaforhire i had a similiar problem once where they didn't accept paypal account that weren't confirmed so i think i contacted the seller and either wrote them a check or sent them a money order. another thing you might want to try is contacting ebay and see if they can help resolve it for you.

Do you think master ship builder could get away with 4 hull pieces for a ship that is slightly bigger than the Black Seas Barracuda and Skulls Eye Schooner?

An unconfirmed shipping address? Can you get the shipping address confirmed? Anyway, for that price you should easily fall under the eBay Buyers protection fund so if she won't refund the money or send the LEGO within a week or two open up an "Item not recieved dispute" to let her know you're serious. If that doesn't get you anywhere then take the dispute further and eBay will provide you with assistance.

That sucks. I hope you get money or legos soon.

The 4+ ship would looke better with 2 hulls at the most, i think. Or else it's to big and bulky, IMO.

nope, because i am not verified by paypal... and if i did get verified it takes like a month to do it becaue they ahve to send you "secret codes" BTW thats their words not my interpretation... they only confirm billing addresses, which i said was fine she could send it to my CONFIRMED billing address, but for somereason, even though paypal says its confirmed she says it isnt. (i originally paid and told it to send to me at my unconfirmed shipping address, because i am at school) The woman is not very responding. i will take action monday if i hear nothing more...

paypal has refunded me money before, didnt know EBAY would too... i will follow though there.

I'm sure they could, but eveybody and his brother build large and long ships. I just would prefer some more medium to small ships more often, like Evil Willy's Lotus

I know whoat you mean... Though i do plan to build a "monster ship" someday, since i don't really have one yet that i want to keep.

Update on paypal, looks like the woman caved, she is sending me my legos! whoo hoo! i wont have to send my forces into her country and reak havok with laser guided missiles.

Also, was over at my mom's today, where my real collection lies, besides crying over the dust that has befell my three BSBs sitting side by side, i made sure all my relatives know if i am to die what to ask for all those ships lol! also i found a best lock ship NIB that i had forgotten i had (i actually have two, but couldnt find the other one) i am debating opening the ship and building it to see what it looks like when it comes out. if any of you are familiar with best lock, its slightly incompatible with lego because the studs are too long i believe (been a while since i opened one to look at it) also i think the pieces look "duller" then lego and don't shine nicely :( the minis are horrible.... but the ship looks ok on its own... thinking about building it for wargaming...

OR... selling it on ebay, i just saw one of their imperial ships went for over 100 dollars not new in box... so this could be some good cash for legos... or could provide a different ship for my growing navy... this is the link to it... they used to have TONS of ships if i remember correctly, i thought they were the same company as the one that makes those ghost sets in the states, but perhaps i am thinking another ocmpany (which means i should go look at their bricks to see the compatibility...)

so i have hijacked this thread to talk about other <insert that tiresome argument> looking lego clones! hehe... actually it isn't very junior, just not up to snuff with system pirates... and if anyone find COKO ships (some really nice looking clone ships are available from them, original designs that compete with lego IMHO) pleae let me know what you think of them!

I've built two bestlock ships, and they arn't the best. They've been on display for about 6 months now, and the bricks are starting to seperate from each other. As well, they don't fit together all that well, and the masts are done just horribly. Also the minifigs look stupid!

Other than that, they arn't too bad, espically for target pratice for superior Lego ships :-)
