Shark Attack!

Recommended Posts

I was just browsing Brickset, and to my surprise, found a few new pirate sets. When they 1st popped up on my screen (as small images), I thought, "oh, could this be NEW pirates"?

But the result was in fact, this:

I stand corrected, I stated Pirates 4+. This is definately Duplo!

That's actually not 4+, it's Duplo. Which I believe has been discussed in other threads, nice job on fiding the pics, though.

Don't worry...from recent experience in Castle I'm sure that if Lego restart pirates they will find a way to get a whole lot of bionicle parts andneon figs in there somewhere... Red Beard is probably docked off whatever Nui right now...

God Bless,

Nathan

Recent Castle experience eh? As we've officially determined Knights Kingdom and the "Classic" Castle theme are two different themes or "products" as The LEGO Company told me. So Mr Norro, could it be your recent Castle experiences aren't really Castle?

However, The LEGO Company is releasing a Castle set which they are trying to pass off as "Classic Castle", is this a better recent Castle experience for you Mr Norro? Or is there still too many parts that you dislike?

what a terrible thing...why????????????????

Old Lego pirates were great...that huge shark and that ship are terrible(but i must admit the ship is better than the other +4 ship)

Hope forget these images early

What do you mean it might cut into Bionicle?

I was just saying that had had so much focus on bionicle in recent time as compared to other themes that had seemed better. This is nothing against those out there who are fans of bionicle, just more a personal preference and me poking fun at lego.

yea pretty much. it might cut into bionicle.

Oh that's OK, I don't particularly like Bionicle anyways, it provides for some great MOCs but the whatever Toa from whatever Nui story seems a bit childish to me.

hmm, they have made brick sharks before (creator series). so if they intend to recreate pirates, i think they should follow the lead from vikings and instead of giving <insert that tiresome argument> junks like dino attack, they should give brick sharks. it would be quite interesting if they come up with giant sea creatures (like giant octopus, giant squid, giant whale, giant sharks) to battle with the pirates. it could be a popular theme!

that would definitely be interesting. Have a Moby-like whale to take on. Probably stating the obvious, but I wonder if vikings is lego's way to just try and satisfy both the castle and pirate fans ?

Not that they are bad sets mind you. They may end up being the first ones I purchase from a store in 2-3 years.

My response to this is HELL NO!!!

The SYSTEM sharks (introduced into the LEGO world in 1989 by the Pirate theme no less) are just right the way they are. They're not too big they look overly <insert that tiresome argument>, they're a simple design consistent with the other SYSTEM elements and they're the right scale for the mini-figures.

A shark built from seperate pieces would look too angular and clunky (which wouldn't make the shark look too good), unless a bunch specialised pieces were introduced to streamline the appearance. Alternatively the sharks could be made bigger, in which case that would interfer with the scale of the mini-figures and increase the piece count adding greater expense to the set, or reduce the piece count of the main design.

I think a shark the size of which pirate Lego sets requires would turn out like that sea gull on the skull in that picture in the other thread. It just wouldn't look as good as the shark which have been in pirate Lego in the past and thereforth I see no reason for them being changed in future pirate Lego.

I definitely agree that a new Pirate theme doesn't need "<insert that tiresome argument> junks" like those seen in Dino Attack but don't you think "brick beasts" look too mechanical in juxtapostion with SYSTEM sets? They don't seem to have helped the Viking theme much from what I'm aware of so perhaps its not an endeavour that The LEGO Company should pursue for a new Pirate theme. If people want brick beasts they can also buy the Creator sets and use them with the SYSTEM sets so there's no need to include both in the same box.

I happen to love brick beast, unless they use bionicle *n*

They should also try to go a bit smaller than the (creator series) with most of the creatures. Even the smallest brick beast is giant in minifig scale.

I agree with Mister Phes on the Viking designs, but you can just use beast parts in some other way if you don't like them. I don't really like the current minifig shark or aligator 'because' they can't be used for parts.

Yeah, the brick beast parts can be used in other ways alright, but my objection to is including them in the set is because I'm paying for them as well. I don't want to buy brick beast parts that I may never use.

Why couldn't Lego give us a new Pirate ship for regular mini-figs along this line?

7880-1.jpg

The LEGO Company says: Megabloks must be doing something right! They use giant peices with one humungoues cannon that doesnt look anything like a real cannon! LETS COPY IT!

---

Seriously, these two things are the absolute worst piles of :-X LEGO has ever made.

Dont y'all just love it how LEGO seems staunchly determined to become just another toy company?

Speaking of trying to revive a line... if anyone got the email for taking the LEGO survey from TLG, then there are some answers you need to put into your survey

When it gives you some answers to check mark what you would like to see, one answer should definitely be the block: "I would like to see all lego pieces ever made in the brick factory" Think what we may be able to do if we could get hulls and masts on brick factory, MOC pirate ships out the wazoo@!

second, there is a field for putting in what you would like to see... this is a no brainer, "Pirates and other original themes" should be put into that form...

if enough feedback is given... perhaps we coudl see pirates.

anyway i don't know how many of you got the letter from TLC in your email for feedback... but please do it if you did!

little off topic, but thought since we were talking about bringing back the theme and in a decent way, this was as good a place as any to post it.

It's DUPLO and it's for 3 year olds, what do you expect? It is obvious that we think this is a horrendous LEGO set because we are obviously not 3 years old.

Marketing toward 3year olds is fine but I think TLC should keep in mind that that a set like this will keep a child's interest for 2-4 years max, where system sets could last a lifetime. I don't know what the overall customer demagraphihics are like but I've bought far more lego as an adult than I ever could afford or allowed as a child.
