Hey all,

This is my attempt at an entry for the Mini contest. This is a Technic street sweeper inspired by the LEGO 6649 Street Sweeper.

6649_main.jpg

Functions:

-Working HOG Steering

-Retractable side brush controlled by knob on side

-Lifting brush head controlled by knob on top

-Swiveling brush head controlled by knob on top

-Floating brush head (moves freely over uneven terrain)

The scale is about the same as the LEGO Mini Backhoe Loader set from one or two years ago.

Below are some pictures of my first iteration, which had 253 pieces (way too many!).

Now down to about 215 or so parts. Still looks ok too.

I'm thinking that the side brush could rotate to swing out instead of lower... That ought to save you a bunch of parts.

That's something I had considered, but if it just swings, then it would still be on the ground regardless of if it's retracted or not. That being said, I'll have to see if there is a way to save parts on the side brush. I think I can do better with the chassis, but things are tight.

I'm just thinking how all the US street sweepers with a side brush I've seen work, which is to rotate out on an arm with a very slight rise as it tucks inside the hull. With that lego brush, it's never going to actually touch bristles to ground, so to me it's just a matter of looking good while swinging in and out...

looks very neat though, should have been an actual set!

Very nice model

I hope you will be able to bring the parts count down, while maintaining the functions.

The only thing I'm not too thrilled about is the colour scheme. I don't like the yellow-red-blue combination. It is one colour too many for my taste.

Just another update. I got the parts down to 199, and I was able to retain all the functions. Woohoo! Here is the final version:

I'll work on a better presentation picture, and maybe a video as well.

I can see this one on the shelves yes....

Thanks! That's what I was hopping for.

I agree that the colors are a bit bold, but I picked these colors since I was using 6649 as a reference. That is also why I used grey for the parts on the side brush. My original intention was to use white with a green or orange stripe and the blue brushes.

I like it a lot! Very well designed model and great functions as well.

Impressive that you lost more than 50 parts and made it look even better.
