Here is my lastest car. The classic Volkswagen Beetle, officialy called Type 1, or informally in some places around the world the VW Bug.

This car received a lot of modifcations and improvements along the years, I have built the 1967 model.

VWBeetle-01.jpg

VWBeetle-03.JPG

This car is made in scale 1:7.8. The total size is: 65 studs of length, only 25 wide and 23 of high (50x20x18 cm)

The weight is 2.5 kgs, with around 3000 parts and 5 motors.

VWBeetle-05.JPG

VWBeetle-07.JPG

As always it includes some remote controlled functions:

- Steering (M motor)

- Drive (2 XL motors)

- Sequential gearbox (PF Servo motor)

- Brakes (M motor)

VWBeetle-09.JPG

The sequential gearbox is a modified version of the Mustang's gearbox (3rd Gen V2), with 4+N+R speeds and as always with auto-clutch.

The speeds ratio:

R - 1.25:1

1 - 1.25:1

2 - 1:1

3 - 1:1.33

4 - 1:1.67

The max speed in 4th speed is 4 kph (~2.5 mph)

It has a gear indicator in the interior, between the front seats.

VWBeetle-23.JPG

Boxer-4 fake engine under the rear bonnet.

The bodywork

Also you can disassembly the bodywork removing only 5 pins, do it is very easy and fast.

VWBeetle-13.JPG

VWBeetle-14.JPG

A complete bodywork with openable doors, front trunk bonnet and and rear engine door.

VWBeetle-17.JPG

Also the doors have lock, you need turn the door handle to open it.

It has 4 full size seats and folding front seats.

VWBeetle-12.JPG

VWBeetle-11.JPG

The suspension is based in the real one: front rigid beam independent suspension axle and rear swing axle.

Also the front axle has stabilizer bar.

VWBeetle-21.JPG

VWBeetle-22.JPG

The steering has ackerman geometry and working steering wheel.

VWBeetle-10.JPG

The car also has working brakes in all wheels: disc brakes in the fron and drum brakes in the rear.

In addition it includes functional brake pedal.

Now the "most wanted" picture for technic fans.

Like the Mustang the instructions will be available coming soon

Finally as always a little video:

Great replica of a vw beetle, you made a fantastic job of the styling. :classic:

Is this the moc that Blakbird spoke about that he plans to make instructions for,or am I getting mixed up with something else?

@Sheepo - Great work once again. It is instantly recognizable and I like all the features that you have put into this, and especially how you have kept the rear suspension true to the original.

I was really hoping to see that you would model the original suspension, glad to see that you did! I would love instructions for just the gearbox, are they available?

Thanks to everybody for your comments ;)

I don't know, but like the LR and the GT500, Jurgen will make the instructions. I hope Blakbird will help us again with his renders and testing the instructions ;)

Awesome! Always wondered how to do drum brakes.

The brakes are the same used un my forgotten Petebilt. But with mechanical actuation instead of pneumatic :)

My favourite car, now in Lego. I've always wanted to build one but the lines of the body have been to hard to replicate, for me anyway. This is fantastic, and has all the details of a '67. I must commend you.

Again, this is very very cool.

Will there be a manual edition again like for the Mustang?

Unfortunately, that doesn't indicate if there will be instructions for a manual version as well as the instructions for the motorized versions, since "instructions" usually refer to a single model as well as to multiples (at least in terms with Lego). That's why I asked.

But thanks for the heads-up.

Wow, beautiful car! I love classic VWs, and you've really brought the bug to life. And don't even get me started on the power functions... Marvellous work!
