New Yellow Castle (375, 6075) Parts

Yes back in 1984 (when there were no other AFOLs to compete with).... I bought 10 Yellow Castle (the 6075) on clearance at KMART here in the USA.

The boxes, stickers, instructions, minifigs have been sold loooong ago... but not most of the bricks.

If you have a yellow castle set, but it's not looking the best because of used, scratched or chewed up parts... I can help you give your model a NEW look... I have several groupings of nearly 500 yellow parts (out of the 701 total parts in the Yellow Castle Set....

I just went thru and found some bins of yellow parts, and have been sorting the Yellow Castle parts from the newer parts. To the untrained eye... some bricks have the molding pip on the side of the bricks with a thicker LEGO font on the studs... and mixed with some of these were newer bricks with the pip on a stud... but they still had the thicker LEGO font.

Yellow parts that were exclusively pip on side were..... 1x1, 1x2, 1x2x6 arch, 1x2x8 arch, and 4x6 yellow plates (that also had Pat. Pend. removed).

Yellow parts that sometimes had the pip on the side/some on top, all with a thicker logo.... 1x3, 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 bricks.

Yellow parts with a pip always on top... 1x4 arches, 2x2 plates, 1x8 plates.

Again... the LEGO fond is slightly thicker than the modern font, and this difference is noticeable on Yellow Castle Sets.

Well sales have been doing well, and I'm still adding other Yellow Castle parts today (in red, white, black, gray).

But in doing so... I suddenly realized that I'm doing something that very few AFOLs can do... identify mold variations that include "pip locations", font types, "Pat. Pend." and "Pat. Pend. removed" from the bottom of the LEGO elements.

This is the kind of information that Bricklink, Peeron and elsewhere does not provide, and can prevent a buyer from geting truly vintage parts in old sets... and just getting modern parts advertised as old ones. Not really fair... but the inventory database managers don't seem to want to deal with this issue... so it can be problematic for the purist....

Imo, It's almost impossible to get an accurate inventory at this level. As TLC didn't keep track of anything back then, not even of the sets they produced (sigh), they certainly won't be able to help identifying mold life spans. It seems already difficult to gather accurate parts inventories on BL - for older sets - based on investigations, I can't imagine what a mess we would get if we look at the mold types.

Besides this lack of information sources, there's also a more pratical issue here. I've been collecting sets (1978-97 mainly) for several years and I do pay attention to those details (side pips, cellulose vs ABS, Pat Pend., open inner studs, inner markings, etc.). Even if you can make some general statements, it's not possible to be really precise. I think production lines were too inconsistent to be able to keep track of this. For example, the yellow castle 375 you're selling parts for: I own two copies of the same version (type I stickers), both have been build once (mint) and have never been mixed up with other sets. In both copies, all of the 1x1 and 1x2 yellow bricks have the side pips. On the other hand, one copy has all the 1x3 with side pips but not the other one. This is just one example. Almost every set has such a story of mixed part types (that would fit a Blu-Ray ). But yet, I still hope to see such an inventory pop up somewhere...
