7721 "Bad guy vehicle" box art surfaces

Recommended Posts

I had my doubts (MAJOR doubts) about 7721 before and I'm sure most of you did too when we saw the less than flattering shot of the set in that catalog. Well, seems like Ultraman-bc of Brickshelf's gotten his hands on this set and he's taking the liberty of posting pics here:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=273052

I dunno about you, but I have to say this is an improvement from the previous pic! Docking mechs, new mini-mech designs and the whole "Robot crush puny purplehaired fleshling!" could very much redeem much of 2007's Exo-Force! While I'm still not quite digging how blocky the spider-pack looks, I gotta admit this still looks better than that crazy, giant wheeled monstrocity that is the mobile Devestator. :D

Tks for posting this ;-)

Its totallly not the same set anymore hehe !! Major lifting On !! I still don't like it at all !! I view it like another gigantic spider (hum, seen that already) with more details (like the prison) + a mech atached in front |-/

For those who forgot how it lookjed before the major lifting:

7721.jpg

I think its not worth buying that when it comes out-, it won't sell (like all big EF sets) and thus buy one cheap later on !!

It will be expensive I reckon for parents to buy that as a gift, the box will be huge, so it will piss the stores to carry thoise non selling sets forever X-D

I think that its really far from beeing sufficient to try and redeem EF |-/

*yoda*

Ug, it looks just as ugly before IMO. More details yes...but it's still full of holes and just looks like an awkward Striking Venom. This hasn't made me want it any more...just another crappy EF set IMO :-X

I kind of find it funny that the flying vehicle still has a missle and a handle despite how small it is

I can't see any obvious changes from the first pic.

Still uninspired. Looks like there's just no creativity left in the exo-force line. Can't get excited about this at all. :-X

Still looks like junk to me.

-doesn't look like part of Exo-force theme, instead, maybe some horrendous Technic line from a decade ago.

-not as pretty as the spidery type mech that came before it.

-no really new or different parts as well as too many filler parts to go gaga as a parts source.

On the plus:

-well, it has 10 silver robot arms (mecha fingers) and 2 bronze ones... ...though that's more of a Bricklink thing, not a "god knows how expensive large Lego set" kind of price.

FAIL.

...FAIL.

......FAIL.

Oh well, the line at least introduced some new parts here and there.

Nighty-night, Exo-Force. This set's going to murder your profits.

well this set actually has some really good greebling but the overall design sucks. And did you see that stupid thing hikaru is flying, it looks like an already crappy missile launcher for another set.

It looks a little more like a bug to me rather than a spider, so that

I like it better now that I see better shots of it and understand how it functions. It's a great parts pack and I will buy it just on that merit alone.

However, it stills looks a little boxy to me. I'm not sure about the function of it. Why does the robot mech strap in to the bug part? Is that so it can dig through the mountain and then release the mech? And Ryo's little "plane" is just annoying. :-P Still the mech looks much cooler in these shots. I love the way it is squeezing Ryo on the back of the box! Minifig suffering on!!

I've always wondered why the robot mechs need robot pilots. If they are so smart, why don't they just build the robot brain into the mech? Why bother with a pilot at all??? *wacko*

Because of the union, of course.... 8-|

Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union,

Didn't had the chance to build it (deep in castle right now) but I still feel the set is great. The box is as big as the 7707 striking venom and I suppose the build will be close to that size. Anyway, this set is being sold at a discount in Singapore (S$69.90 ~ US$46 vs SRP S$101). I was pretty excited when the set was made available here when it isn't listed elsewhere. :-D

The model doesn't look that different, but I do think the set looks better now. *wacko* I certainly don't think it is good design though, but I do like the cage idea. It is obvously supposed to be the Robot version of Aero Booster. Depending on price I might want it for parts...

Welcome to Eurobricks! I would love some better photos when you get around to it..... *sweet*

I agree. It has to be the most absurd Exo-Force vehicle yet! :-D

When I first saw Exo-Force I felt the same way, but I have since got over it. Yes, it doesn't make sense, but like many stories you have to accept some silly design concepts and see things as a whole. For example

1. All Mecha stories - Mecha simply make no sense at all, but they sure are cool

2. Spaceships banking in Star Wars - Silly. But it is what people expect even though it is completely wrong.

3. The guns and the solar system of 100 planets in Serenity - Both silly, but the concept was a western in space.

...I can go on for a while. But in this case, the story is Robots versus Humans, thus there are Robot minifigs, even though both sides pilot giant robots. It's just one of those things. *wacko*

It seems like the official name is now "Combat Crawler". At least this is what the guy at the local lego shop told me from his list of sets from Lego.

Because having a robotic pilot has one advantage- when ejected, it is still capable of infantry combat. Destroying or damaging mech is thus only a minor setback, instead of a kill, which it would have been would the mechs have been fused with the Devastators.

Nice argument, but why not just make 2 mechs instead?

"Robot crush puny purplehaired fleshling!"
:'-(

I must admit that it looks a lot better. I'm not yet sold on those legs. They suffer the same fate of the Striking Venom legs, they look too..uh, Technic like? Too full of holes? You know what I'm talking about. Don't get me started on Ryo's flying thing. The design is a bit lacking, but the prison and the overall shape of the models are really neat. Oh, this is what Swiftone (who works for Lego) said over BZP:

By the way, the yellow battle machine folds up to be a bit more of a head for the walker unit. It's just not shown on the box.
That is pretty cool. I hope that it will look like a proper head.

One more thing...if this set, seen for the fist time on the newest Lego catalog, is already out, could it be that my beloved Dwarf Mining, also seen for the fist time on the newest Lego catalog, is out? That would be great.

Compare the size of a mech and a robot. Given the time and the ressources needed to build one giant mech, you could easily build about 50 to 100 robot drones, who are capable of piloting the mech AND fight as infantry.
