Rail Co Posted August 8, 2014 Hey guys I am wondering if anyone knows why there is a center hole/slot in all train motors. 2014-08-07_09-26-42 by Railco1, on Flickr I know they were i believe originally for the 12v motor but is there any use for the middle slot now? If so how could I use them (ex. Shunters) Thanks Guys! -RailCo
Lazarus Posted August 8, 2014 you can put a tecnic pin in them and use it as a dummy wheel for shunters. It might just be there for some tooling they use to make the motors.
JopieK Posted August 8, 2014 Back in the 12V days there even was a special wheel that fitted that middle hole on every motor.

jtlan Posted August 8, 2014 It helps support the motor frame piece, which has a corresponding bump that fits in the hole. You can jam a stud (or the head of a half-pin) in that hole, but it's not a very strong connection.
legoman666 Posted August 8, 2014 I modified some half pins with axle to fit in that hole on one of my locos. They fall out occasionally as I didn't do an awesome job.
