What's up from Chicago!

Recommended Posts

Hello people!!!

Long time lurker first time poster. No really. I've been lurking these boards for 5 years now.

I went to Brickworld this past weekend and met some AFOLs from this board. The conversations with them inspired me to finally get active here.

So here I am. With a new account.

I'm a student living in Chicago, and I'm an AFOL in a semi-dark ages. Time, money and college hasn't allowed me to build LEGO like I used to back in the day, but my interest is still the same if not more. That's why I've been lurking on this forum, checking on various blogs, brickshelf, and even flickr for everything LEGO.

I have one year left of college. I have no idea what will happen after, and whether or not I will fully be able to get back into LEGO right away. But I sure plan to.

Quick question: Anyone here familiar with the sort of semi-dark ages that I'm talking about? Am I the only one?

And if no one has come up with a good name for that, I would like to coin the phrase 'twilight ages.' Copyrighted by me lol

I don't know if I saw you at Brickworld. :def_shrug:

Our WisLUG table was close to the awesome snail display.

While I was in college (2006 to 2009), I was actually very active on here and building. However, I was able to occupy a whole bedroom during that time.

That changed when my daughter was born and stole my Lego room, which started my 'twilight years'. :look:

I also had some real life issues related to my career and house that did not help matters either. Everything has been squared away now since January 2015 with a new career position, new home for proper space for my Lego, and more free time.

Plus, it helps that there was a Recognized LUG right in Madison, WI. I would recommend that you join a LUG if you have the ability. :pir-wink:

Remind me what was displayed at the WisLUG table?

It seems that you stayed at home during college, which does make staying with the LEGO hobby easier. If that was the case with me I'd still be building like crazy

But that hasn't been the option for me even though I go to a college close to Chicago (Lake Forest.) My family has been traveling, so having a permanent residence in town hasn't been easy. All my LEGO are in storage. Until then, Digital Designer is always an option

As for joining a LUG, I've decided I'll join ChiLUG if I stay in the city after college and get my own place.

I brought Pirate Stuff for our WisLUG display. :pir-grin:

I was out on my own THAT time I went to college.

I went to college couple times before earning a degree.

Welcome! Always good to have another in the area. Glad you made it out to Brickworld...total chaos for me this year. Next year will be much smoother...and much more social!

Again, welcome!
