Maegnus Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) Hey everybody, I am going to IKEA later today and want to grab some shelves for display (too many bare walls). What is particularity good from IKEA in terms of displaying of LEGO? Thanks! I bought one of these (Expedit Bookcase) on Monday for the purpose of displaying my mocs; 16 pockets is a lot of space, and keeps everything nicely separated: They have shelves in the same Expedit format too. I also got a Billy Bookcase for larger mocs. Edited April 15, 2009 by Maegnus
mania3 Posted April 15, 2009 My shelving in my LEGO room is from Ikea. It is from the Ivar system. With this, you buy the shelves, sides, and support backing individually and build the shelves in any shape or form you want. All told, mine cost about $190 to shelve this entire wall. They also have various stains you can put on them. It's a little more work, but it allows you to custom build the style of shelves, and given the slope of my wall this was necessary for me to do. I was also able to build a little desk section at the bottom of the far right shelving unit, which was a more expensive piece than the rest.

Eilif Posted April 15, 2009 I have this shelving system, that I was told was from IKEA. I don't think, it's made anymore, but the depth and height of the compartments is similar to the Expedit series. The shelve pictured here (over the desk) is the LACK series. LACK available in lots of colors and finishes, and the optional metal supports are quite classy looking IMHO. I have 4 of them over my workspace for displaying MOCs and sets (until I need the pieces). I also like the fact that they don't take up lower wall space, so you can have a chair or desk, or whatever, under your display space. While you are at IKEA, check these out. They are bigger in size and compartment than plano cases or thread cases, and they are great for storing parts, and small MOCs. GLIS box with lid $3.99 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10073345 I have 10 of these that I use to store and transport all the parts of my train club module that are not buildings or bases. (cars, people, fences, small structures, etc. All the best with your new display space!
Peppermint_M Posted April 15, 2009 *envy* I wish I had a room to myself and my Lego. (Current: Share with three ~messy~ people, sleep on sofa ~snoring sibling~ and a small amount of Loft space for Lego) At the moment my storage is a mess of boxes of varying sizes a chest of drawers and a large wooden board for a WIP large MOC. The joke is that when I move out I'll need to get a two bedroom flat to havespace for all my toys. My Billy bookcase holds some of my books, DVDs and my favourite MOCs. They have space for extra shelves and cost around £10 for the cheapest unit.
