Lego.com Bricks & Pieces

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been covered, but couldn't find anything in a search....

When a new model comes out. Say 10252 Creater Volkswagen Beetle. There as you know a crap load of new Dark Azure pieces. What is the guestimate on when they will show up on Bricks & Pieces for purchase? They are all there now, just show out of stock.

Thanks

Possibly never. Sometimes LEGO adds pieces but keeps them out of stock permanently. Sometimes you'll have to send them an email asking for a quote. Sometimes they'll become available after the set has been out for a bit. There's really no telling.

Eh, I managed to get some of the nice new parts from the 42056 Porsche just recently, and that's a set that hasn't been out for very long. There's no obvious schedule for things to become available.

TLG has to produce the parts for the service which takes about one to three months typically before they appear on BnP. However I've noticed this year that the parts were available to purchase quite soon after the set release, a couple of weeks, if not immediately.

Not true in all cases. Nexo Knights launched in January, and pieces only became available in June or July.

really?

I thought that Lego was producing as much as needed (for the sets) in large batches, and once it's known that there won't be a shortage for the set, the remainder is put in B&P.

Meanwhile, -some- new parts also appear before the set they're in is released.

Some important ones are already out of stock - I'm glad I got 20x LBG 24201's (inverted slopes) in time.

They produce parts in batches first, each batch (in a container) is then feed into system for set production from the warehouse. The moulding machines are on a tight schedule for production of specific parts in a period of time. Another mould is then swapped in to produce another part (or in some cases they have to deal with a malfunction, which causes downtime). The machines are constantly working, although there are limited production runs for particular parts based on the life-cycle of a set. When BnP runs out of a part, they have to produce more, provided there is not more at the warehouse. Only when they don't produce the part anymore does the stock literally run out.

I should have clarified, that the parts I was looking at were from Lego City, Star Wars, Creator themes.

It might depend on where you live, but for me the turnaround for B&P is usually at least two weeks. S@H stuff ordered at the same time arrives within a week.
